when we play ****, theres usually 5 or 6 threads by the time i get home to comment on, dont think theres been any yet.. do we only like to talk when we are ****? ha ha played well today i thought, bristol city where pretty poor in all honesty, but credit to us for taking advantage.. thought most played really well but especially fryatt, probably should have had a hat trick but kept plugging away and getting in there like all good strikers do and eventually got his reward, his movement and effort was impressive all game, thought hobbs and koren were really good as well. happy days.
Made the same point on another thread mate, I'm beginning to wonder whether I dreamed today's result.
Great day yet again, Nicky got it spot on tactically leaving Mclean out for Brady and hopefully Fryatt will have the taste for goals again, just what we need right now!
agree, either they're all at pub celebrating or we just like to moan only. Weirdly winning 3-0 feels a bit "meh"... good day, that is all.
Tbh like you have said above Nick got it right, he accepted with the pitch and the Bristol City defence that we need to be less patient against these and get it forward quicker and more directly. And it worked brilliantly. I think their defence looked awful Fryatt outpaced them all day and he is hardly Usain Bolt. Good team performance and we could have had so many more if we didn't take our foot off the gas, but who cares three points and three goals!
thats the same the world over though isnt it. There are always more activity on an anti message than a positive one . If my TV works fine i dont go looking it up on the net , but if it develops a fault im in there looking on the first "I hate Samsung" forum i find , all bemoaning how crap the telly is.
A good day all in all, shame Fryatt doesn't up though, could have given open-goal opportunities to Koren and Evans if he did. Anyway, it's probably better winning 3-0 and Fryatt scoring than winning 4/5-0 and him not, as it could have a very positive effect if it puts him in form for the next 6 games.
I'll become his number 1 fan... but for me McKenna was MOM again. He's like the silent assassin, does everything well without anyone actually noticing! Actually delighted with Nick's tactics; after being ed at his decision to leave Oli out (was he injured?) but Evans had a great game (much to the disagreement of the miserable sod a few seats away from me). Anyway good team performance against a pretty bad team. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the way Hobbs/Chester dealt with Wood upfront for them, after he was a real handful for the Brum against us. Roll on Tuesday; in two minds whether to go... hmmm! UTT!
I did every pre-season, I've been to almost every game home and away, yet I manage to miss our biggest win if the season. Ffs. And I had a box today. Still, at least we won, Fryatt scored and we sounded by far the better team. Maybe I should stay away more often.
forgot you said you werent going, could have done with that box today it was bloody freezing. we certainly where the better team, if it wasnt for david james could have been 5 or 6 easily, taking the early chances certainly seemed to help ease any tension, was only 1 winner from there.. miss the next 2 or 3 see how it goes and we will decide if your allowed back in
It's my daughter's 21st on Tuesday, so I'm screwed for the Brum game, but I'll back after that(sorry).
Sometimes the result is more important than the performance and we did what needed against a very poor side. I.m a,little concerened about Fryatts ratio of chances to goals. Today I counted 5 chances not including the one he should have squared to koren. My worry is he may not always get 5 chances per game. Can.t see Birmingham letting us have 15-20 chances. Was disappointed in Cameron Stewart today. Lots of possession.but often wasted or lost and doesn.t work hard to win back possession.
Disagree with the Stewart thing he lost the ball once today. That was the problem i don't care if he loses it taking his man on, just passing inside is not his thing so was disappointed he didn't take his man on more or try getting the ball played over the top. As if he was played centrally today he would of bagged a hat trick their defence was that slow.
It was a great result, and I don't want to sound negative but you have to wonder if we hadn't scored 2 awfully defended goals in the first 15 minutes would that have been another nil-nil? Fryatt had 4 or 5 one on ones and only managed to get a shot off once. Bizarrely that one looked really composed and was a great goal, but the rest were terrible! The worst was when he was put in behind at a tight angle so he couldn't shoot but looked for someone to pull back to, but he spent so long looking that he didn't notice the ball trickle off the pitch for a goal kick! Numpty. Still I was delighted that he finally got his goal, he seemed equally pleased about it too! Small mention for the ref too, I hardly noticed him all game and that is the sign of a good ref. Is it a coincidence that the 3 home games when the ref hasn't been a total douche have all resulted in wins?
It looked to me like he'd been given a specific job to do defensively, namely stopping Adomah being able to run at Dawson with his pace. Reasons for thinking it: 1) The wingers didn't swap sides at all today. Stewart was on the left the whole time, with Brady/McLean opposite. As offensively it can be an advantage to switch them every now and then I'm assuming there was a not in possession reason. Following from that, Stewart generally does more defensively than Brady so it must have been to keep Stewart where he was. 2) Dawson was getting forward a lot, if Adomah didn't track him then Stewart dropped into the full back position. It would explain why he wasn't getting involved as much going forwards as normal, as well as why it would seem like he wasn't doing much to try to get the ball back (if he lost possession his job was to get back to Adomah, not try to win it back).
He was better than most. Some people really want to learn the rules though if they're going to boo Chester being booked. He made 2 tackles in the space of 5 minutes where either could have been a booking. He got away with the first one because of the time and Hobbscoming over to speak to the ref. The second was worth a booking on it's own, but certainly as a totting up of fouls it was always coming. A bit surprised the ref didn't even give a freekick when Hobbs did the same thing though. There were a few bizarre decisions, but nothing on major incidents like normal. Although there weren't actually any major incidents to be covered, the tackle on Koren in front of the East Stand is one you appeal for and try to use to get on the back of the officials over them not giving but don't complain about after the game. The one on McKenna could have been a booking, but we got the free kick where with the refereeing this season you'd normally see McKenna penalised.
