If you are a genuine Saints fan there is no real difference, except the way you go about it, that's your business not mine.
Support makes you a good supporter. Support: 1. To bear the weight of, especially from below. 2. To hold in position so as to keep from falling, sinking, or slipping. 3. To be capable of bearing; withstand. 4. To keep from weakening or failing; strengthen. Vin
Good = supportive, honest, and understanding of your team's potential. Bit of a cliche, but don't get too down when we lose or too high if we win, although if you are a proper fan you will probably ignore that. Bad/plastic = Constant negativity towards the players/management, and someone who will go to their 'first game of the season' against the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal. Also, someone who believes that football matches finish at the 80th minute, or sometimes earlier, when we are losing.
What makes you a good supporter:- My unconditional love of the Saints and every player who pulls on the shirt. and what makes you a bad/plastic one:- what a stupid question. Next?
Good: Being vocal no matter the scoreline or however badly you're getting torn to pieces, staying till the end when you're losing badly, following the club's women's team (most clubs have women's teams, except for Man U and a few others) Bad: Leaving matches early, calling for the manager to be sacked during matches, booing players during matches, calling mangers to be sacked after just a few games, thinking a victory or a trophy is some kind of right
Al, I disagree 100% with your comment about 'first game of the season' as that is unfair. If a fan for whatever reasons (there are potentially a lot) can't go to games regularly, they can choose any game they like to watch. If they can only afford one or two games a season, fair enough. What game would you choose? Chelsea or Sunderland? The cry to plastics, pisses me off and I think is unfair and snobby. I lived in Wigan for five years and couldn't get to many home games. I remember choosing some of the bigger teams. All the talk of extending stadiums... We'll need all the 'plastics' we can get. I welcome any fellow fan. I agree about the negativity comments.
The only reason I dislike people leaving early is if it blocks my view. But then the very people here who keep moaning about it, how many of you stand up during the game thereby blocking permanently the view of anyone wanting to sit, i.e. ME.
Good support = being there in a half empty stadium watching the team getting humped by watford, after missing 2 pens. Or is that being a mug, i never could decide?
Using the term "plastic" is enough to make someone a bad supporter. Who gives a toss how many games someone goes to or how loudly someone sings?
Good support. The team doesn't need you to sing when they're winning, they need you to sing when their losing!
