Odd, a couple of games with new team-mates is not going to tell us much.

He's pretty much just played for us since we signed him so a bit of extra experience at another side should do him good. Maybe the idea is to get him match fit so he can play a part in the relegation battle.

That was a bit of a leap Billy. From talking about some kid getting first team experience to ES slamming the wallet shut.

I don't know about that, we're trying to sign Ayew for around ten million. If Gooch is as good as I hear then he could be a useful option same as Watmore.

I think maybe the reason why it is initially just a month would be to see if Donny are going to play him rather than he goes and they put him on the bench. I think he if he does play and he does the business then the loan will be extended to the end of the season. Hope the lad does well and get's the games there rather than playing in the under 21's. Seems a very good prospect......

League one. Is that any higher standard?

From what we hear by some on here our u21 are decent. Probably hold their own in that league.

I think you could argue that either way....I think it will probably do Gooch a world of good coming up against a 'has been' who is trying to kick the **** of out him because he is at the level he's at.....all about experience these loans..not necessarily the standard......

Probably Big Sam is hoping that it works out for him to stay longer.....then return to Sunderland with his 'big boy' pants on. Just like what happened with Pickford. I like the dynamic of us as a football club looking at the kids. For quite sometime it's never happened....always the don't want to throw the young ones in in case we get plastered and it kills their confidence. This is bollocks to me mate....look at Pickford last two games...as a goalkeeper he has conceded 7 and has probably been our man of the match in both games......lol. Kirchoff might turn out to be the best thing since slice bread....but would love to see Beadling get a regular 15 to 20 mins or so...all looks good if we continue to use them. Pickfords short term success has had spin offs in other areas of the club. It's enable us to let Pants go top free some wages up to bring others in....I bet Ellis is lying in bed tonight with a semi on thinking how much he is going to get when we sell Pickford....

The flip side is the u21 are doing well and could win the league. But sending them all out on loan may hinder this.

    Its catch 22

Site will die any minute. Like it does everyday.

Would rather we created good young players who can put pressure on first team players....than win the Under 21 league.....

But wouldnt winning the u21 league also create pressure on the first team?

Surely it means they are of a decent standard and improving. Plus SA can watch them all the time, if he chose to.

Seem to remember a certain Sir Alex giving a few young uns a chance from the younger ranks. Ok they never amounted to much.<whistle>

I think one of those 'young uns' was a certain David Beckham who spent time at Preston....wonder what happened to him after that? Big Sam watched Pickford a number of times playing for Preston so I don't think he thinks he needs to see them everyday if they are getting the experience they need for their development.

Like i said mate for me its a catch 22. Send them out to these strange teams for experience ( maybe only a month) or let them flourish in the u21 and maybe win the league. Which will certainly catch SA attention.

We talk of players needing settling in time, well this lad isnt gonna get any of that, thrown into a team of strangers and has to hit the ground running or he comes straight back after a month deemed not good enough. Not a confidence booster.

I dont know if theres a right or wrong choice here, just different ways of thinking.

Certainly food for thought.....it has just seemed for a number of years we have always had a good u21 team yet nothing develops after that. Only Henderson and that lad the Nags signed...seemed to have come through. At the moment we have Pickford and Watmore getting game time....hopefully Beadling and Gooch to follow soon.....even giving them 15 to 20 mins is such a good thing. Probably the current situation with the kids is due to a number of different reasons...good u21 side, some of these kids training with the first team, going out on loan and gaining first team match practice and a manager who will give them an opportunity.....

And they are settled and doing well.

Im not saying its wrong to send them out on loan (although a month hardly seems worth it) some of them at some stage will need it (hopefully by then a high league club will be sniffing) but while they are here, and doing well, some of them have a chance to make that breakthrough, and perhaps win the u21 league. Which is a good thing.

Plus as you have said they are already mixing with the first team
