Aye, I was on about this the other day... our goal difference is so much better than those around us that it does essentially equal an extra point.

Totally, If it comes down to it. However, I beleive we are two strong for most of the teams around us. Including today's class performance just look at our record. Our only defeats v Norwich Palace by just a single goal prove that.

Now for the road to Wembley.

    9th best overall.
On a side note - eliminate 3 of Norwich's 3 big losses (0-7, 0-5 & 0-4), they would have the second best defensive unit in the Prem. after Cheslki. Funny old game.

Southampton and Man U are the only sides to score more than 2 goals against us so far this season.
Southampton are the only side to beat us by more than 2 goals.
Only the top 4 and Southampton have beaten us by more than 1 goal.

For a newly promoted team to be able to say that at this stage of he season is good going. Last time we were in the PL we were beaten 5-0 by Wigan and 5-1 by Tottenham by the ends of the Augusts each season.

I really can't see three of those bottom five teams finishing above us.

When you look at the last 3 games as well. We've got Fulham and Villa away, and then Everton at home. Fulham should be gone by then, Villa should be safe, and Everton stand to gain £1M if we stay up. Unless they could gain/lose a position I can't see Everton wanting to relegate us.

Indeed, bloody good going for a team lacking a potent attack. That issue seems to have been rectified with the new lads. Lets hope we can avoid any more injuries to our defensive units - it's certainly looking exceedingly positive.

If we finish on 38 points and another team finishes on 39, with an inferior goal difference, we'll still be behind them.

GD does not equal an extra point. Factoid.

I just think it's a bit of an overused football cliche. It's not that common it even comes down to GD by the end of the season anyway.

And in the 80s when we were denied by Sheff Utd in the 3rd Division.

That was on goal average. Divide the number of goals scored by the number conceded. Every week. Without a calculator.

Goal difference is for innumerate fools.

The team that we lost out to on goal average, Oldham, beat us 3-0 on the last game of the season. A draw would have promoted us, a win would have promoted us as Champions as we were one of 3 teams that finished 1 point behind Man City.

It makes more sense to say that GD is worth half a point

Yeah it's worth a point when you're looking at the teams behind you, but worth nothing when it comes to the teams you're chasing.
