I personally can't stand them.I can't stand people who just support a "big club" because they're the flavour of the month or because they win loads of trophies. I proud to be a saints fan and not someone who supports Man Utd or Man City because they are good... What do you guys think of glory hunters?
I was once asked years ago why I supported Saints and I replied I was a pot hunter. He didn't get the irony of it. I think more of a fan who supports their local team (which is why I have more empathy with our fishy friends than with ManU supporters). It must irritate true supporters of 'big' teams if they are compared to hangers on, but I expect they get philosophical about all that money coming in for club goods. I suspect that Cortese wants us to become a big club and have vast overseas support.
I hate glory hunters. Support your local team or the team you supported as a kid. Otherwise you're pathetic. As for Saints fans. Next season there will be several people turning up who didn't bother watching us in the Championship and League One. they will immediately start moaning at certain players in the first few games they know nothing about and what they have done to help us get promoted. There will even be guests in the home section supporting the opponent now if we are playing big clubs. This is going to annoy me
Good point, Joe. To some League 1 and Championship fans we must have seemed a big club with pots of money and they must have felt superior in being faithful to a club without the reward of success we were getting.
Or you're just not that into football. "Hate" is far too strong a word for football. It's just a game. If you find yourself hating a football team or its fans, give yourself a slap, man up, and get your priorities in order.
Don't take the word so seriously. I meant they annoy me by the word. Massive overreaction here. You need to man up not me and you are throwing all your toys out the pram!!!! People that aren't into football then it obviously doesn't matter that is obvious smart arse
It annoys me when someone keeps switching teams based on who is performing better, but for long time glory hunters (someone who picked Utd as a kid because they won, but carried on supporting them, for example) I couldn't care less. The only ones that REALLY annoy me are former Saints fans who switched when we got relegated (either to the Champ or L1). I suppose I'm a glory hunter in a way, born in Winchester and lived my first few years in Eastleigh but I sure don't support either of them.
True, and I don't support St. Albans. I wanted to support a Premier League team I could watch on TV, so I suppose that means I may have glory hunted to a degree. Wouldn't dream of switching teams after relegation though.
I began supporting Arsenal as an adult because of my then husband and still want them to do well (except against us), but watched Saints lose against Man U and fell in love, so I certainly didn't switch to a team doing better. I could have saved myself a lot of pain by continuing with Arsenal but then wouldn't have had the excitement of last few years. Supporting a team like Saints makes the joy greater because you also have the bad times. If Cortese has his way we will soon be bored by success...not the Champions League Cup again
.......and you are in the IOW so its either Saints or Pompey. No contest really. Whats the rivalry like over there by the way?
My great great great uncle was Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Sir George Couzens (you just can't make this stuff up) but I was never tempted. Seriously though, is there any problems being either a Saints or Pompey supporter on the Island?
You know most kids support Manchester United right? Personally, I don't care who you support, as long as you aren't a 'bad winner' about it.
As I've mentioned before, my son said he supported ManU as a child but would be ashamed to support them as an adult. I know what he meant...he feels a real supporter supporting a real team. Apart from people in Manchester, ManU supporters must feel they have to justify themselves.
You will find plenty of Liverpool and Leeds fans around my age-I'm 48. Plenty of Man Utd fans in their 20's and 30's and no doubt there will be loads of Man C fans reaching middle age in about 30 years time. If I meet someone from down here who supports Man Utd or Chlesea or whoever, I always say "that's great, good club, I love that area when did you move down here". You then hear a load of pony, which normally involves, "my Dad supported them, and got me into it". I just basically take the piss along the lines of , " I wish my team had won as much", "I'm stuck with Southampton", or "WOW I really admire you, travelling so far each week to watch your team, must cost a fortune". That normally makes them **** off and stop talking about football near me, as they're embarressed.
