Seen a number of comments this season about Glen Johnson on a number of threads, sometimes quite often negative What f**kin game are people watching, against United he was sensational IMO, he played 2 positions when we went to 10 men, he basically played LEFT...................., full back and on the wing as well as Suso move a lot in field.Without question he has been the best of our experienced pros this season, and has also nurtured and helped Raheem Sterling. He gets a lot of unnecessary grief IMO, people say he weak defensively , he isnt its a myth, hes very good there too, has exceptional strength, pace, very two footed, good crosser off both feet, technically very good, reads the game excellently. In a couple of our early PL games he was our BEST offensive threat playin from full back. I would even argue hes the best full back in the country at the mo, on either side, his form has been great, in a side that has had no luck and struggles to get the results it deserves due mainly to not converting our chances Get off Jonno's back hes a top,top player and a top pro
It's Lucas all over again. So many people would keep calling him ****, just because of a single mistake in a game.
Nobody has ever denied he is good going forward but imo hes a total liability in defence and costs us a lot of goals, we should play him further up the pitch where he cant do any damage.
How sad ,a RHC wannabee, thats where the similarity ends there though, RHC knows his stuff, you my friend are f**kin clueless
I agree always been a big fan. He was the best English player at the Euros and he was still getting crap!
I'm torn on this one as I think that on many occasions Johnson can be a terrible defender when playing at RB. The reason I am torn is that I don't recall him having a bad game at LB, the defensive errors seem to disappear and he is just as good going forward. So I agree with people who don't rate him as a defender but feel he is so good at LB that he should play there on a permenant basis, we have a good right back in Kelly who should start when fit.
I agree with the OP,Johnson is a top player and just does not get the credit from some quarters. Every player makes mistakes but Johnson's all round game is very solid. I'm glad he's a red.
I don't have a problem with Johnson he seems a nice guy and is loyal to the club, I would just like him to stay at LB as he is solid in all areas of his game going forward and defending. At Right back he can make mistakes defending.
Ok, Ben. I know you're a wum, but this point is worth discussing. You are partly right, but you're living in the past. Modern full backs are required to go forward and so quite often will get caught out of position. Having the pace to get back is obviously an advantage, but it does mean you're often behind the attacker and occasionally having to make risky tackles from behind. I've been mildly critical of Johnson on occasions because he hasn't bust a gut to get back (imo), but because he's good going forward, he's always going to be encouraged to do so at every opportunity. The days when full backs had the luxury of being able to hold their position and stay goal side of their man are long gone.
Bloody hell - he's brill - nah, he's ****e... Good god - you two have to have a nice reasoned chat. He's one of the best right-backs in the PL, but he's not faultless, and does sometimes get caught out at RB. Seems to be better at LB - perhaps he concentrates more or is aware of his weaknesses at LB and compensates by staying a yard or so deeper. I dunno, but he has been good for us this season, apart from flooring Dagger...
I'm one of the critics. He is good going forward - but not defending. And what is his primary job? I think he's worth his place in the team, but amongst the worlds best? Not for me.
Na not for me. Gets easily wrong footed and doesn't stop balls flying in from the wing. I'm not saying he's bad, but he's definately not good enough to be considered one of the best in the world.
Not a world-beater at RB, but still the best English RB available. Which says much about the quality of England, TBH. Why England fans allow the gutter-filth rags to wind them up into believing In-Gur-Lund will win it (whichever comptition it mught be) is beyond me...
