Can somebody explain this dispute between liptrott and and Scally please? I've heard mention of the two names before, and this is another example...

I thought this ended a long time ago, didn't this start like 10 years ago when he banned Liptrott from the ground.

I am not aware of a case such as this before where someone has to transfer a domain name to the complainant. Although I expect this is nothing unusual and there are probably many cases.

The part I find interesting is this opens up many questions around the sale and purchase of domain names. Just had a look this morning and I see most combinations of domain names in direct relation to our football club are registered.

Surely if the Gills had registered that name years back as solely for the use of the club this couldn't of happened ?

So were the club lax in the past by not registering that name as solely theirs,....so no one else could use it.....or do I not understand the problem being from elsewhere ?

i think its more to do with what he was using the domain name for and that scally was saying as this is a registered trade mark or recongnised tag that gillingham use then people are directly associating it with the club and therefore its not right

If we look back to 1999 when the domain name was purchased and attempting to put that into perspective, google started when 1997/1998? - Facebook had not even launched and mobile phones were only just reducing from the size of house bricks (I remember having a BT Cellnet). We were only just turning a corner in to the fast developing new world of internet communication. Plenty of grey areas within that and one such area being that people can start purchasing a product that might be representative of a company name. Absolutely no suggestion here but purely as information value only, basically there were people in the United States that bought up loads of domain names representative of sports company's and they were known as cybersquatters!

Its just common sense isn't it? For anything Gillingham FC related to be "official" it needs to be under the direction of the Club.....or started by Hoadie!
