Getting Robin to stay

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by Robin van Bergkamp, Nov 9, 2011.

  1. Until Mikel Arteta scored in the 74th minute of our game against West Brom and lest we forget it was courtesy of an assist by RvP, our man in the No 10 shirt had scored as many goals as the entire team put together so far in the EPL this season. In fact were it not for his goals in five of the last six games and the assists he has supplied to others, assuming that no one would have stepped up in his place, we could very well still be marooned in or close to the lowest reaches of the table. It looks like a no-brainer that we should do all we can to keep RvP in the club, indeed perhaps even to the day that he ends his playing career. Not only has Robin’s presence made an impact in our resurgence, he has further shown himself to be a good leader and is someone appreciated by both the team and our fans. I think he has shown loyalty to the club in his time with us and over the years I cannot recall RvP ever being critical of Arsenal beyond asking for decent signings to demonstrate our intent and ambition. Definitely nothing wrong with that.

I think this club should do all it can to keep Robin van Persie. His abilities and efforts are crucial to our success in the EPL and would enhance our chance of a place in the Champions League. He has shown himself to be a modest man not persuaded by mercenarious ends as others of his stature or even those with only a fraction of his prowess have demonstrated. I believe that in common with a desire that drives the most genuine of sportsmen, he asks for a chance for silverware, as we the fans do. So this club should do all it can to show that it wishes to keep him by not only buying but also keeping the players that would help get both him and us to the prizes that have been long been absent from our trophy room.

And if he does ask for a pay rise, we should indeed pay him since this unpresumptuous man one assumes will not be asking for or expecting the earth. Perhaps something not hugely different with what our manager currently receives would be a good indication of intent on the part of the club. I’ll go further to say that the suggestion he had mooted not very long ago about having a free role could and should be tried out. Furthermore some of the problems we have experienced within the club and team such as the absence of defensive strategy or coaching and the problems of our injuries should be investigated since surely these weaknesses need to be addressed and earnest attempts to resolve them would further express to van Persie and indeed anyone that this club means business and is intent on going about the business of winning.

I believe it is crucial that we do all we can to keep Robin van Persie, don’t you pals?

So what do you think will get RvP to stay, stay and win with us?

RVP needs to be paid what he is worth and any player who has a problem with that can go. Forget equality, some players are "more equal" than others. Arsenal need to smash the wage bill for RVP. these other chumps who think they deserve parity or even close to parity should shut up, nobody comes close to RVP talent-wise.

The proverbial fox in the box. Wenger missed that trick a long time ago .. seems he got his fingers burnt with Jeffers and didn't bother pursuing that option again.

Arsenal are very serious about keeping him for a long time, and it was only 3 montsh ago that he was made club captain.
AW is sitting on a long term improved contract for RVP, he has said that he doesn't want to talk contracts when the team must be focussed on winning game, which I think is right.
This will be resolved next Summer and I am convinced he'll get a 4 year deal - AW recognises that RVP is crucial to the club

Anything less than a 4 year contract will be a big mistake. He brings a lot to the club, not only with his goals and skills, but it will show our ambition. Also, players like Wilshere, Ramsey etc will greatly benefit from playing with a world class player!
