I don't get your argument...so we should pay Gerrard what he wants because of how he used to perform for us? No one is saying he's not a Liverpool legend, no one's forgetting his history with us either. People are just questioning the value in paying a 34 year old 120k+ especially when his performances have been somewhat questionable. It's not necessarily getting rid of him, it's getting value for money from keeping him so that we're not financially handcuffed when trying to find other players for the team - we're not exactly swimming in profits right now...

    But he didn't say that!
He said he wants to keep playing football, whether that be here with a contract extension or elsewhere.

Why are people being so negative about this?

He might be right but it's more likely we simply have not offered anything as the article suggests so if that makes Gerrard antsy he'd better get real, self agrandising legend terry has found that out

Who's the power here? Lfc should not care at this point if he does bugger off. If he then does tv etc f him cos he agreed specifically to take up ambassador role after okaying last contract

Personally I feel we should keep him until he decides to retire, he probably has two years max of playing time so what's the point in just shooing him away?

He should have just batted the question away with the usual "I'm not worried about it, I'm sure it will get sorted. I'm just thinking about the game ....blah blah". He's clever enough to know if he deviates from that, it will be making headlines and the media will be blowing it up... as they are. So it begs the question why he did it.

I also don't know why you wouldn't want him to stay. It's not like there's another young Steven Gerrard waiting to play, and Gerrard still has it in him to carry the team mentally if not physically. He just needs his season managed professionally to extend his playing career. Why the fck would you have your player retire from international football at 34 and then play him 90 mins week in week out. Clueless imo. Gerrard can make a big difference in selected matches/competitions (European, cup games for example) Or you can play him week in week out and he will flatline.

Anyway, Liverpool need to keep him so when they win the league, he's there to lift the trophy <diva>
