Bazray claims that Gerrard is underrated, i said he's not, he's overrated, this was after he said that Gary Neviile is the most overrated player to have worn the England shirt.
Definitely in the top 3 midfielders ever to play in the PL. In his prime he had everything a midfielder could want. Obvious that this being posted on a Utd board people will slate him!
I agree, he's one of the best midfielders the Premiership has seen. He could never quite reproduce that in an England shirt, but then, Gerrard's far from alone in that respect. Overrated, maybe now since he's well past his peak, but a few years ago he was brilliant. Fergie would of had him if he wasn't a Liverpool player.
The problem is he's not what he once was, so people shouldn't rate him as that. In his prime he was without question one of the best about. If you look at him from 2003-2007 (ish) he was simply incredible. Literally won games (even tournaments!) on his own. Ratings fluctuate, but for some reason people don't grasp such a simple concept.
My top 3 would be: (in no particular order) Gerrad Vierra Scholes I'm basing that on most accomplished midfielders. Not one trick pony's
Based on central midfielders I'd go with: Scholes Keane Vieira Petit Alonso Essien (pre-injury) If we were to include wingers then Gerrard wouldn't make the top 10. Massively overrated player. Tactically incompetent.
