I can't remember to be honest - I couldn't remember a period where we kept clean sheets though.

Scored and provided assists, yet he was bad? God help your lot now you have to complete a season without him! The incoming Flamingo won't be able to replace his goals/assists etc

 

I didn't say you said it was. We were talking about Gerrard's corners - not random corners taken by random Liverpool players

 

Using this logic, Henderson is better than Iniesta and Coutinho.

Henderson got more goals and assists than Iniesta last season. But we clearly know who is the better footballer.

Point I'm making is that goals and assists are just a very small part in assessing a player's ability/performance.

100% correct. Its this looking at Goals and Assists which led to people paying 25m for lallana, 20m for downing, 24m for darren bent

Well you're saying that goals and assists means that Gerrard had a good season.

By using this same logic, you're now implying that Henderson had a better season than Iniesta, because he scored more goals and got more assists.

Like I said, I rather assess players on their all round game - goals and assists carry less weight in my book (especially for players who are in the positions/roles which their primary responsibility is to defend i.e. Gerrard).

 

So in the two seasons he (Gerrard) played that role he scored loads of goals and was part of the side that had a great defensive record when they fell short?

But he is past it/terrible/you are glad to have seen him go??

That is where you are going wrong - that was not his primary responsibility, it was to receive the ball and launch attacks, create goals etc. Which he did brilliantly in the title challenge season.

He was not asked to play the position that Lucas would play.

 

You've lost me - great defensive record?

I am glad that he's gone - I loved him as a player and respect everything he has done for the club. But it's time for him to move on because he simply isn't good enough anymore.

 

My gripe isn't so much against Gerrard, it's more to do with Rodgers for playing him in such a position.

Fact is - Gerrard was there to screen the defence and he was atrocious at it.

Mate your logic is out of whack. He said something on the lines of 'Gerrard scored and assisted is that now seen as bad?' For you to go on to comparing players like you did, who was better than who, is a huge leap of logic. It's a completely different discussion. If you say Gerrard had a good season, that implies nothing more than ........ Gerrard had a good season.

 

The logic is correct - because you're simply saying that getting goals and assists means that Gerrard had a good season when he didn't.

and I never said scoring and assisting was a bad thing - I said that I want use those stats to mask the real issues which was that he was at fault for a lot of the goals we conceded.

 

Gerard was the best player last season....

He would have been the best player at the club this upcomming season. He will be a massive miss....only an idiot would say he had lost it, rival fans will be happy to face Allen rather than gerrard
