I had Piastri as favourite anyway as think he has a bit more about him so think even if he had a DNF he'd still win it now.

Any chance Verstappen attempts a silly lunge and takes himself out and Piastri, and Hadjar wins the race? Please? :azn:

Before the summer break I would have agreed 100% , but I think the win in Hungary gave him a huge boost in self confidence . He will hopefully just shrug today off as one of those things , and I expect he will think it could happen to Piastri . Same amount of power units , same mileage .
I agree that I think Piastri has the mental edge and will probably be WDC .

Not sure what Landos mechanical issue was . Seems to be an oil leak as opposed to full on engine failure .

"Lewis Hamilton has been given a five-place grid penalty for next weekend's Italian Grand Prix after he failed to slow down for yellow flags on his way to the grid at Zandvoort."

When it rains, it pours for Lewis. I'm slightly baffled as to why they couldn't give a penalty for this during the race. And they somehow gave Sainz a 10 second time penalty and 2 penalty points for that collision with Lawson.

Yeah. You never know what they're doing re engines etc, but nice to see them at the top like that, particularly as Charles had to abort both his first two runs on those softs with people doing daft things.

Yeah I'm not reading too much into it TBH. I'm fairly certain Lando won't be nine tenths off the pace tomorrow!

Unfortunately not. The Ferrari looks quick in a straight line though, which is the first thing you need at Monza. Fingers crossed they can keep it up, and also not make some kind of horrendous strategy decision at any point. Big ask, I know.

It would also be ****ing typical for Lewis to nail a qualifying when he's got a 5 place grid penalty.

Yeah, that's such a bullshit penalty too. I mean, it was fair to penalise him for it, but it should have been done before the race at Zandvoort. They had all the data to do so. To roll it into this weekend is a nonsense.

Suspect we’ll get a slightly better indication of things over the next hour.

They brought him in a year early. Should have put him in the Williams for a season or two and brought Sainz in to Merc.

I suppose at least the only damage he's done here is to his confidence. Although that's not a good thing either.

Yeah but he’s making these errors pretty consistently. Too much pressure in a big team to perform from the off. George had a couple of seasons at Williams, Charles had a couple at Sauber. Even Max at Toro Rosso.

Yep. Not many drivers have gone straight into a big team and performed from the off. And the last one to do that that was Lewis at McLaren - and even he was several years older than Kimi when he made his F1 debut (21/22 I think?).
