I was gutted when he left. I didn't feel it was the right time. Only reason looking back, is if the relationship with McNally had totally broken down, and then there was a few issues with his backroom staff. Maybe then, it was right we let him leave. Still, him as a personality, a manager, his way of dealing with players and press. The way we played, fearless. I loved it. Saying that. AN reminds me so much of that.
Whoooooooow! Someones still heartbroken! I kind of have the same feelings when I think about it. But, I'm not that angry still! The thing that keeps me calm is the feeling of rage: Villa chanting Lambert, end of the season when he was our boss, then they got him. Then them playing such Sh*t football. and campaigning to sack him. I'm still smiling!
The grass may well appear greener - but Norfolk surely rules in the None of my concern, but why, after all this time - which has included our success and his failure?
I can honestly say that of all the great managers that have left us for pastures new I despise that Jock the most, all the others had a genuine reason for leaving. Bond (our best ever), had really taken us as far as he could and Citeh was too big a gig to turn down, O'Neil was shafted by Chase as was Walker but Lambert got too big for his boots, thought he was bigger than the club and after he lost his sidekick (Culverhouse), was found to be wanting. The fact that he left for Villa really sticks in my draw, they're another Liverpool ' who think they should still dine at the top table for feats achieved a two generations ago. When Villa get relegated and we're still Premier League I'll laugh like a drain
Sorry - meant to delete that first line and didn't. But, that aside, I can't think of anywhere in this country that I'd rather live
Great recovery! Me too mate. Born and bread here, wouldn't live anywhere else....Unless I had to go on the run suddenly!
I'm not negative, it's just that I can 'see the wood for the trees ' having followed City for nigh on 45 years. You young 'uns have a lot to learn our beloved club have always lacked ambition despite the soundbites that emanate from Carrow Road. All this 'family club' bollocks gets on my tits, the sooner Delia is ousted and a more forward thinking ambitious investor comes in the better. I fear the old girl has 10-15 years left as yet though so we won't be moving up to 'the next level ' anytime soon. **** me if that rant doesn't get a few more posts on this board I don't know what will
Haha, you and me mate, dragging out posts! I remember (very vaigly) watching highlights my Dad recorded on video of the Bayern game. He wouldn't let me stay up to see it. I remember pausing it to go through to him to say "you said I'd like this!!" (were we 2-0 down?) something like that. Went back, pressed play, and the rest is history. I can only support the club consciously, as long as I have the mental capacity!
I was annoyed when Lambert walked out on us, but he did it to Colchester so it came to no surprise when he did it to us. I don't blame any player or manager leaving to better their career but as I said before, the Villa job was always wrong for him. He needed another good season with us in the PL then maybe a bigger club may have came knocking. I don't hold no grudge though, hope it works out for him at Blackburn.
Like, apart from no grudge (I still have a bit of ill feeling) and I wanted him to take Villa down. I find myself feeling, I'd like him to struggle near relegation with Blackburn. Think it would give Lambert a slap back to reality. He obviously thought he was above us. Now look at him. Still smiling.
To be honest, something probably went on behind the scenes we don't know about. But to still hold a grudge or feel bitter towards him, you're all in danger of sounding like Col_Mike I'd rather have AN now then PL anyway, so all worked out for the best.
Similar playing style, but I think AN is more professional and conducts himself better. Alex Neil always says it how it is, something I don't think Lambert never did.
I loved how blunt and Honest Lambert was on games, and players. I think they are the same like that. Lambert maybe hinted at club matters, where as AN wont talk about it. Only difference I can see so far.
