Todays Chronicle mentioned has us linked with 3 championship forwards. Connor Wickham, Jay Bothroyd and Shane Long

I certainly this its worth dipping into the championshop and picking off the top players from that league. Its been done in the past with Lescott, Cahill, Jagielka, Smalling etc..

I know this is a lower level however see seem to be doing plenty of scouting in the Dutch, German and French leagues which to be honest are about on par with the Championship.

I am not a big fan of Bothroyd - and he does not fit our blue print for future signings with him being 29. Shane long has been a round for a few years even though he is only 24. When Reading were knocking around in the premiership he always seemed to come off the bench and grab a goal - I'd have him and or course Connor Wickham who is young and could be expensive. These two lads are an improvement on what we currently have and will only get better over the years. They also are pretty realistic.

We have also been linked with Adel Taarabt and the Welsh center half Ashley Williams from Swansea. If we can unearth some gems in the lower leagues then could have some talented lads on our hands without having to splash big money.

    Any thoughts lads?

Think we need a top striker to replace Carroll so wouldnt take a risk on a CCC player for that but otherwise, there are a lot of gems in there which we realised playing there last season. Isnt Danny Graham top scorer this year? Local lad you know <whistle>

Aye he could go to the big clubs for big money - but i'm jsut not sure he is ready for that. I could see us get him and end up selling him on in 2/3 years after he proves himself in the premiership

Aye I saw he was banging them in this season. Could be worth a pop.

I agree. Lets try and sign a bigger name / proven scorer then bring in these lads to play with him.

    I'd take Long, Graham, Wickham
    Over
    Loven
    Shola

Got to be careful when looking for Championship players. A lot of them cant make the step up, especially strikers.

Wouldn't want to pay the money that would be required to sign Wickham. Maybe sign Long as he would be cheap and probably better than Shola/Lovens. Wouldnt want him leading the line as first choice striker though.

edit; see, you get a much better response when youre not advertising your blog. <cheers>

Is Peter Whittingham still good? I havent watched many games this year at all but he got 21 goals from midfield last season?

Wickam would nearly make up for the disaster of selling Carroll and make me think there are more than two brain cells running the club.

Long would be a good signing if not too expensive, and more reliable than some of the foreigners being talked up.

Bothroyd's signing would have me straight down the bookies for 20 quid on relegation. Quite simply ****ing hopeless at this level.

Danny Graham is shoyte. I have it on good authority from a Boro fan who has been to at least 3 games. He is their 3rd most loyal fan.

He hasn't done too much this season. Playing a different position due to them mainly playing 3 strikers with Bellamy, Bothroyd & Chopra

They'd have to, strikers wouldnt exactly be their priority if they went up IMO

I don't know if I'm pleased or not that Premier League teams aren't talking about our players!

I think we need to spend BIG on a class striker - I say splash a big amount getting Sturridge from Chelsea. He's not going to get a kick there next season and he would surely fancy Newcastle over Bolton?

Really? With Drogba on his way and you never know Anelka could leave as well?
