Whilst undoubtedly an all round good egg and future Swans legend, it was blindingly apparent that he was as out of his depth in the game yesterday as Warwick Davis would be in an Olympic Diving pool. The other players almost looked terrified at the prospect of having to pass him the ball, not knowing whether or not they'd get it back cleanly, at knee height or not at all. I'm afraid I'd be playing Bartley until Chico returns, with GM as emergency reserve only.
To be fair he did win some crucial flicks at Newcasle corners, BUT, he should have scored and I've seen milk turn quicker, time for Bartley to have a go I believe!
Yea probably...at this moment in time, untill Chico comes back, play Bartley. Bartley was really bad against Liverpool, probably the worst player on the pitch. So it was fair and right that Garry played in the final, and then this week as well...But from now on Bartley should start, with Gazza on the bench
missed a sitter, kicked the ball a bit but totally out of his depth, go do your coaching badges and stay with the club
He's a time bomb waiting to go off, he's really showing his age, never was a quick player, but he's decidedly pedestrian now, Please Monk hang your boots up son!..........
He just looked so old out there yesterday. He cant get off the ground and cant run. This appears to be 1 season to far for GM. time to try something else.
The lack of pace isn't a problem. It's the lack of quality on the ball. There are many things that he's very good at. He reads the game well. He loves an aerial battle. He's often right where he needs to be, when he needs to be (the £90m block for example). But he just can't do anything with the ball at his feet. He can't run with it and he can't pass it. Never could. In times gone by that wasn't a particular issue given the quality of the opposition, but the chasm in quality between him and the rest of our defenders is like the chasm between Daiswan's ears. Newcastle started targeting him as the game wore on, pressurising him when he had the ball because they knew that they could unsettle him, and us as a result.
