His stats are actually very good when you take into account the games he's played, as he's missed a few with injurys
Or...maybe some of us are saying both have been brilliant and would like the same consistency from you.
Bale has 20 goals and 16 assists, so he has more assists than Suarez and only 8 less goals, playing as a winger, or a AM, not a striker
And he's managed those in all 3 competitions including the winner last night in the Copa Del Rey, about 5 goals in the Champions League along with 3 or 4 assists. There really is no denying he's been very good at all levels of the game.
Don't know how some people can so easily write off messi, he might not have scored the 70 odd goals of last season, but he's got 38 goals in 40 games. As far as I'm aware only Ronaldo and ibrahimovic have better stats and messi has struggled with injury problems. For me he's still the best player in the world. Ronaldo has had a great year and is currently playing the best, but I believe messi is the more talented player.
Hold on, you are the one that claimed Messi was a flash in the pan and would become some average player in a few years and in the same breath called Rooney world class Or that he wouldn't do it on a cold night in Stoke, that was before he went and won another 2 wpoty awards Short memory lad. Messi has had a poor season by his standards but he's got 30 goals this season I think, that's good by any benchmark. he's the best player in the world, no doubt, he just can't win the award every year. 4 on the trot is enough to cement his place as No1
May as well respond to this as you do keep bringing it up. I said Messi could well become just another south american. Amazing to begin with but later on, close to his 30's he fades away like many of his feloow South Americans have done before. In no way did I ever call him a flash in the pan. The argument was over Ronaldo and Messi and I claimed Ronaldo will age better
Messi is still one of the best, but he will never achieve his peak again. Looks like the drug induced growth hormones to make him the player he is, are finally catching up with him
I think it is a little premature to say Messi won't reach his best again, as he's hardly had a poor year, and has still had some great games this year. I think a lot of Messi's problems are down to his team mates not being as good as they where. So Barcelona as a whole are struggling, not just Messi. Once you start getting into your late 20s though, you have to have the professionalism to keep your foot on the gas, when it comes to training , and generally looking after your body, you also still need to have the hunger to do well. That is why Ronaldo at 29 still seems to be getting better, where as Ronaldinho for example couldn't be arsed, as the money had gone to his head, so he didn't have any real reason to want to train hard. Messi I think has had kids recently, and he's got more money than the queen, along with having won every individual award, and every trophy at club level, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on over the next couple of years, but I wouldn't write him off just yet
