Who do you think should play against united - Gabriel or Mertesacker? And also for future games... And why?
Maybe Gabriel, most of us always choose Gabriel ahead of Mert because of pace, but if we're honest you rarely see us concede goals because Mert was outpaced so it never really becomes an issue. Gabriel-Kos does bring more pace-agility, so I guess I'd go with that, even though we aren't conceding goals because of a lack of agility-pace in defence, more down to just bad defending when we do concede....But Gabriel has been looking good recently, so I'd like to start him based on his performances.
Merts for me. He lacks pace but organises the players around him well. Plus its useful to have his size on set pieces.
Gabriel, for me. Merts is great at reading the game and is composed on the ball, but Gabriel is combative, agile and is an exceptionally underrated tackler (he always seems to time his tackles to perfection). His positioning is just as good as Merts, and he has the pace to cover lost ground.
I think I also would take Merts. Today when a defender jumped up for a header he was so much higher in the air that he took it down on his CHEST! Plus, United dont have massive amount of pace. Great dilemma to have because I think Gabriel will become great. Love his aggression!
