Crakerjack you must be a whummer Gypes played 97 times in a City jersey and has not improved one bit get shot ASAP.
Gyepes was never comfortable , neither was Matthews . It's to late for Matthews , maybe not for Gyepes , sorry to bother .
I feel a bit sorry for him, to be truthful. He's harmless but a little deluded, he's never seen a proper football match but thinks he knows more than people who have watched Cardiff City over many years. He knows everything about our players and can read the mind of managers past & present and all from a place that calls our game Soccer!
Bare bones team , no money . Lost it all in a one season crap shoot . Debt to look forward to , if anyone cares . My heart goes out to you Lol !
I think the CB situation has to be looked at as a whole. For one reason or another, there hasn't been an effective, settled duo in place, and even going back, it was fair to say that Johnson made Loovens look considerably better than he turned out to be as an individual. Just about everyone who has filled in at CB has had their problem in that position. The question has to be whether we have a dominant CB who can inspire and develop a partnership and back-up. Just for now, I'd be hanging on to Gyepes unless he is causing real unrest in the dressing room.
As to be expected a good, balanced comment from Clingo - as opposed to the drivel from our seriously deluded Canadian correspondent. For those who don't know, Crackerjack is the not606 name of the former regular WUM to the Cardiff site on BBC606, Seebreeze. He had little of use to say then and hasn't been on any self improvement courses since. In fairness he occasionally says something of interest but most of the time it is Cardiff fan baiting WUM material best ignored. As far as Gyepes is concerned, we have watched him for the 3 seasons. He is strong but beatable (see Jon Parkin, Rob Hulse, Steve Howard and Jon Stead) in the air and is slow and easily turned on the ground, also gets tangle footed at times with the ball at his feet and his distribution is poor. He has a bit of a cult status from a home game v. Leicester a year or so ago when he took a red card for the team to haul down Steve Howard who would have had a 1 on 1 with our keeper with the game finely balanced at 2 - 1 in our favour. The "tackle" would have graced the Cardiff Blues full back!!!! DJ signed him but over time decided he wasn't up to it - after which followed Gyepes ejection of Teddy from his pram. We have seen him long enough to know he will never be an automatic first choice at cb and at best is a bench warmer or cover if Hudson, Keinan, Gerrard, Darcy or McNuggetts are all out. However, he is an Hungarian international and has a stronger opinion of himself. It looks like Malky is giving everyone a chance to show what they can do in pre season (he has given Taiwo and Naylor pitch time ffs) so fair play to Malky but also an opportunity for the likes of Gyepes and the other 2 to attract interest from other clubs as they will not be first or second choices for us.
Agreed BfB, and I certainly wouldn't advocate unconditional retention of any player. Like you, I think MM is doing the right thing in having a look at all of his options. At the end of the day, it wouldn't be the first time that a player has improved form and attitude under a new regime regardless of whether he was right or wrong to have attitudal problems in the first place. Like I suggested earlier, I'm not sure we have the dominant leader with ALL the skills at CB yet, and maybe for the timebeing, we have to look at an effective partnership.
You guys make me feel like a celebrity Lol !! . The only point I tried to make is under Dave's thumb , guys like Matthews & Gyepes couldn't have played there best . MacKay is a motivater & just may get 100% of Gyepes ability to the forefront . It's not like MacKay can be to fussy as his hands are partially tied , hardly news !!
I rate Darren Pratley and only seen him play in the Derby's, it's like me saying Brendan Rogers didn't get the best out of him and shouldn't of let him go. I didn't watch him week in week out so wouldn't comment on the matter. See where I'm going with this.
Absolutely & in 9 out of 10 cases you are right Maesteg . But there are occasions when no matter how much a player has played physically & no matter how many times you might have seen him play , he was less than mentally prepared from what he might deem abuse from the coaching staff during that stretch , Matthews & Gyepes fit this mold IMO . I not saying that that's the case here , only that it will be something MacKay will consider . I'm going to say by Christmas , Gyepes will be one of the 2 regular CB's , just a hunch ... It's all us plastics can go off is a hunch
How do YOU know they didn't.......and their best wasn't good enough ? Oh sorry I forgot you are a regular at CCS
How do you know they did & that their best wasn't realized while playing under Jones . Seems a bit odd that " Big Teams " were after Matthews the whole time he was at Cardiff & Jones hardly played him . When he did play him , he abused him in the press , same as Gyepes . I liked Dave , but he was less than perfect . He always seemed to have his " Go To Players " when he wanted to deflect blame . I'll bet MacKay wishes Matthews was still at the club !!
This is exactly what I was going to mention, my favourite Gyepes moment by far! Do you think we could do a deal with Cardiff Blues for him? Sadly can't find a video but here's an excellent still image... please log in to view this image It appears it was Vaughan not Howard btw!
