    No Shawcross in his squad.

BUT as normal favouring teams that are high up in the BPL!

Cleverly and Smalling in the squad but Shawcross isn't.

I admit Shawcross might not be England worthy (prepares for abuse) but SMALLING AND CLEVERLY? Are you kidding? A FOOKING joke!

Also Caulker got called up who has also done absolutely nothing! PATHETIC

Butland should also have been in with a shout, during the game he played I thought he was brilliant (admittedly he let in 5 against Liverpool but still he made some spectacular saves during that match and in other matches!).

Ashley Cole and Glen Johnson also called up! - Barely played this season due to preference of manager and injury respectively, but still called up!!

I guess the only positive of this is that Shawcross is less likely to be injured or fatigued so he can pair up with Huth (who is back this weekend <whistle> )

    Your opinions?

    Goarn Stoke!

The only thing that is nagging at me is that he called up 2 players that have been useless this season!

Smalling is rubbish. Ryan should be in the squad!

You beat me to it, I was about to start a thread about this issue. I know it's been mentioned before whenever an England squad is selected but I like you are disappointed Ryan has not been picked this time around. By all accounts he has been in excellent form recently with his performances and ability to marshall our defence. But instead Woy picks Caulker as replacement for the injured Jagielka. As long as Hodgson remains England manager ShawX will never get another look-in with the England squad IMO. What has the lad got to do?

Smalling and Johnson for Liverpool have been utterly crap this season. Is Ryan ready? I think he is, compared to some of those selected at least.

Johnson shouldn't even drive the bus - and thats coming from a Liverpool fan <steam>

He picks the likes of Johnson, Smalling, Cleverley, Cole - purely because they play for the bigger clubs. Hodgson needs to grow a pair and pick on merit. My biggest gripe has to be Cleverley, FFS the guy is useless.

Even picking Lampard is a waste of a space, by the time the world cup comes he would have lost his legs and eaten enough burgers to sink a ship. Surely giving someone younger a chance would have been logical - even Adam Johnson deserves a shout.

I'm glad he went with Shaw and Sterling, two young lads that deserve it. Other than that any old idiot could have picked the rest! He must go to matches and sit there scratching his arse and not watch the game.

I would have had Shawcross in before some of the others (especially Smalling), surely he deserves a shot?

Also Carrick is as useful as a patio heater in the desert at International level. I'd rather have Gareth Barry FFS.

To be honest I'd be surprised if they could even make the Palace team. Two absolutely shocking players, that have shown absolutely nothing.

I bet Hodgson will say "Smalling is versatile and that makes him useful" - Yeah Roy, he's versatile because he's **** in his primary position and even ****ter at RB.

I dont think Shawx has done enough to be in the squad, however the same could be said for a lot of selected players.

Gareth Barry for example - when he played for Man City he was straight in (even though he didnt play all of the games), yet he plays week in week out for Everton and gets dropped.

I gave up trying to work England managers out years ago, seems to me they all do the same, just try and cover their arses.

Did yesterday's performance prove to Roy that Shawcross must be picked over Smalling?

What about Baines? He scored and Johnson didn't play!

COME ON ROY GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!

He is bloody clueless. Caulker in as well. Fair play to him selecting Shaw, he deserves it, but Hodgson seems to be having some sort of affair with Southampton.
It's not inspiring. And I'm still saying we should get Terry back.

Shawcross is in the team of the week on a couple of papers - really feel for him that he's consistently overlooked.
