Guaranteed it won't please everyone but I for one would be more than happy if they do this well (as they did with Fenway by all accounts). It would also mean a lot to many people in this city if they treat the residents fairly (which I'm not convinced seems to be the case yet despite Ian Ayres claims) and offer them a very good price if they intend to get the council to CP peoples homes <ok> Redevelop the ground AND help regenerate the area for the locals.

Also thought they might find the idea of redevelopment harder to sell to potential naming rights sponsors mind you (as that seems to be a much touted source of extra income).

Something not quite right about this story for me,if true the one thing that doesnt surprise me is FSG haven taken the CHEAPER option.Suspect quite a fans fans may do abit of digging into this story to see if its not just an organisation trying to appease the fans who are starting to get a little restless about the stadium issue

Just tweeted by Liverpool CouncilLiverpool Council‏@lpoolcouncil

Anfield housing plans are not indicative of #LFC stadium. No decision has yet been made. #unhelpful

Liverpool Council being unhelpful eh...so what's new <ok> I do wonder if FSG understand just quite what a pain in the butt process this could be if they try and **** the residents about and don't go about this the right way. Planning laws in this country ain't quite like what they are over the pond. My advice to them would be to ignore any advice given by our lovely council on how to redevelop stuff...or we'll probably knock down Anfield then realise we haven't built the new one yet <whistle>

IMO we need a NEW stadium, if we redevelop stadium max will be 60k, probably more likely 55k, as United are looking to change that railway thingy and up to 94k

We need a new stadium between 70-75k,it wont surprise me if we go for the cheaper , less sensible long term option though

The other thing sorting out all that planning for redevelopement could take 10 yrs, a new stadium could be done in less than 2

Its what LFC say that matters.

FSG's buck aint worth what it was when they bought the club and imo they're waiting for an up-turn in the global economy before making a decision on a new build and atm they're stalling.
But the council and local residents are pushing FSG into making a decision.

The other thing with this story is if Liverpool Council are saying this, the LEAK to the Guardian must have come from Liverpool FC surely. This really does to me look like a move to appease the fans who are starting to get twitchy and restless with the Stadium issue.Worrying!!

My issue is with the fans getting restless. I mean, we need to focus on the football. Forget the stadium for a year or two. Every year we demand a new big stadium or a bigger Anfield and yet we never show that we can play in it.

I realize the more profits we have the better players we can afford, but without the footballing aspect no one is going to want to play at New Anfield or AnfieldV2.

What right do we have to be demanding results? We ask for a debt free club, we get one. We ask for knowledgeable, realistic owners, we get them. They've invested in this club, and they are trying to make it work as opposed to H&G (though the flavour of the month is to compare the two as the same).

A stadium is a multi-hundred million pound investment, so why wouldn't management take a while to weigh up it's options? If realistically we can't fill it, why make it? Contrary to popular belief, it's not something John Henry can snap his fingers and make.

Once we get back into the CL, then we should proceed to talk about redevelopment (my preference) or relocation. We aren't investors or stockholders to demand major projects like this one be whipped up in a month or even a year.
