We have off-loaded many players, reducing the wage bill considerably.

We have allegedly £20m per year from a new sponsor, plus addidas money for our shirts.

We haven't spent all the Gyan, Henderson, Bent money (profit).
We have signed one for nowt and nothing else.

Why? Why is this our position?

We have money. We have a billionaire as an owner.

I would work in Sunderland for £3m a year. so would a lot of footballers.

    Why are we still waiting?

I would LOVE to be shot down.

    Something isn't right here.

I'm getting the same vibe mate but, in the back of my mind there is the feeling that we will bring in some decent players hopefully sooner rather than later.

Martin O'Neill always waits till the very last minute before making signings. Did it most of the time at Celtic and no plenty of Villa fans who felt the same when he was manager there.

Have you not noticed that a lot of teams are in the same position? Those that have signed out of contract players have added, but precious little else has been done because the market seems static. Why? Well clubs want to get good players in before letting good players go, which means less wiggle room for everyone else, with everyone struggling to make deals...

Be patient lads. We're in a similar boat really!

    Talc. No ****. WE MUST. You know that, I know that. At the minute our team v Arsenal is;

Mig (if fit - groin), or Westwood
    L/B Ricco (if he stays)
    C/B O'Shea
    C/B Killgalon or Titus
    R/B Gardiner
    Dm/F Catts
    LM/F Derry Pele
    C/MF Colback
    RM/F Larson
    Light c/f Sess
    Big c/f Ji? Whickham? Frazier?

    Remember the Alamo!

BB - (remember the good old days!)

In the transfer market, someone has to move first. It used to be us. It might need us to do it now.

What is wrong with audacious swoops? Grasping the nettle?

We ALL know what we need - including Short and MO'N.

    Go for it.

In the grand scheme of things, paying, say, £5m over the odds in the whole market - but to stay up and/or move up....

    Is it that bad?

Agreed mate we are paper thin at the minute and, if it stays that way (I don't think it will mind) we will get tonked at Arsenal mind you we will probably get beat anyway.
Just raked through MONs signings at Villa and Celtic and noticed that for the most part he doesn't go for the big name players that we as fans want to see. He signs solid players nowt flash and, then brings in one for big money and looking at those he brought in for big money paid over the odds for them, Milner being the one that springs to mind 10mil I think. Maybe that is why Ellis Short is being a bit cautious with the old cheque book, that's the best I can come up with mate.

Tbh mate not worried that we won't bring anyone in as I really think we will. O'neil wouldn't have come to Sunderland without assurances that he would have money to spend for this season. Only thing worrying me is that whoever he does bring in won't have time to settle into the team before the start of the season. But if we've had to get rid of players to bring new ones in, hence leaving it longer or just wait till other teams have shown their hands and spent themselves out to get the players/deals mon has his eye on so be it. Short has a manager he can really trust now and I reckon will back him to the hilt. He backed Bruce ffs. And mon won't want to **** that trust up by getting mugged off by anyother club

MON is careless with money, he will have a list of players he wants and wont care how much the transfer fee or wages are.

As I said he always leaves it late, don't worry about as he always gets a load of players in the last week!

I'm clinging to the notion that signing a really quality player tends to be a bit more drawn out Bobby.

MON seems pretty relaxed, and seems to be saying that things are in progress, but taking a bit of sorting.

That suggests to me a calibre of player with options, who needs convincing of the clubs ambitions.

It's a nicer thought than the other option ;)

Well there's two half decent theories as to why we are not doing anything in the transfer market mate, no doubt someone will think of another one.

    It's tradition, man.

Should our team now be called "Wearmouth Miners"?

I'm Bonnybobbyparks. I got that wrong. It was supposed to be "Bonnybobbypark"

Should we play in black and white stripes, 'cos its better for tv?

    Behave man you big fairy.

And we'd not have been 'Wearmouth Miners' we'd be 'Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C'.

You wanna go back to that?? Ha.
