In previous discussions on this, many people said that Gomes abilities as a shot stopper were unimportant and that Friedel would have a better command of the box than Gomes, leading to a more confident defence. I was hoping for the best and perhaps it is unfair to judge after those particular matches but I thought Gomes would have stopped the third and fourth City goals.
Friedel was the bright spot of yesterday - if there could be one. He had no cover and made 3 or 4 top saves. He also exudes calmness and this will benefit the team long term.
