I have seen alot of articles about transfers, and alot of people dont really seem to be too keen on the likes of Larsson or Elmander on free transfers. And I have to ask.....why?

Ok, these players are never going to set the league on fire, (altho Elmander was mint on Pro Evo a few years back :p) but they would add to our squad. I am looking forward to the summer, and hopes are high that the likes of Gervinho, Sow, Kranjcar etc are coming. I would love it. If we signed Berba, I would faint.

But we need more than a few superstar players, and bringing in 2 internationals, with Premier League experience and proven at this level, would be great. Elmander isnt the greatest striker, but has proven this season he can get into double figures. Would you feel that comfortable about Lover or Shola doing that? And when we were hit by injuries, Larsson would of fitted in fantastically.

Im not saying lets pin our hopes onto free transfers alone, but I do think these 2 at least, would add more quality to the squad, and more importantly, not dip too far into the transfer kitty for us to bolster our ranks.

Elmander and Larsson on a free? Yes please, and then hopefully bring in a few more and have a better SQUAD than this year, as opposed to just having a better team.

I'm not his greatest fan but Loverkrands has proved that if he started the majority of this season he would be in double figures by now

Larsson is a lot younger than Elmander so take him, yeah
Elmander just had a good patch at the start of the season and hasn't really done much since sadly so I wouldn't really want him, we already have PL experience with Ameobi on the bench

Lovenkrands is a strange one. When Best was playing in his good run of form, I almost expected him to score in most games, and I was delighted when he did. However, I never expect Lovenkrands to score and I find it a miracle when he does. I don't think that would change no matter how many he scored.

Larsson on a free, I don't see a problem with. I used to think Elmander on a free wouldn't be bad as a back up striker, but as CBP said, what with Lover stepping up his game I see no reason why we shouldn't just stick with him as back up (along with Besty and Shola obviously). Better the devil you know!

True, Elmander hasnt done an awful lot since the turn of the year, which probably co-incides with Sturridge signing on loan and Elmander being pushed out to the right hand side of midfield. As a striker, he did have a very good start to the season and think he would be a bit more of a danger up front than anyone we have barring Best atm, which wouldnt be bad for a free transfer.

Larsson would be good, great piece of business to get him for free but Elmander is too old, not at the standard we're looking for and admits himself that he is very inconsistent in terms of scoring.

It's nice to see that we've only got two people on that list and one of them is the bloke we're dying to get rid of anyway. I hope LuaLua secures a new contract soon.

PS: Seems like the vast majority of Blackpools team have contracts until the end of the season. Will they even have 11 players left if they all go?

I think most will sign once there status is confirmed next season.

Edit: I see Anthony Vanden Borre is available on a Bosman. Seem to remember him doing ok when he was at Pompey. Would be a better utility man than Perch.

I'd be looking at a high profile striker ala Drogba, Berbatov or my personal choice of Sturridge. Larsson would be a decent option for a free - we are light that side after Pardew ****ed Routledge off for no real reason... <doh>

I can only see two or three additions as their wages have to be covered by the Carroll money... we wont get all of that either.

Thiago Alcantara he looks decent like, young, free and scored 2 goals in 11 games for Barcelona.

He loaned out Routledge because we had a deal almost done to bring in a right winger, most likely Larsson, but then there were complications and Routledge had already been sent away.

As for the goal.com list, that's dated 19 Jan, so I'd imagine a fair few of those players have signed new deals by now. Anicet Andrianantenaina would be worth signing for money made on per letter names for back of shirts though.

Larsson would be a great addition to our squad. Elmander would be a backwards step, as he is old, inconsistent and does nothing special.

Any good players we can get on frees would be good to improve the squad, so we don't have to play Collo in CM again...
