Well it seem's AVB has been rubbing his lamp furiously this month, as we now have our New DOF.

Is this the man you would have wished for?

Hopefully we will start to sign some <magic> players now!

If you had 3 (player/football based) wishes....whom/what would they be?

Well this should keep Villas-Boas happy for a while and it's a positive start to the off-season, I guess.
Now let's see what our new man has in mind in the transfer market.

Three wishes? 1. Keep Bale. 2. Flog deadwood. 3. Improve the squad.
Overly simplistic? Probably! <laugh> Not sure that I could cover everything that I think we need to do in three steps, though.

    Franco Baldini....this is your life:

Born in Reggello, Italy, Baldini most notably played for Bari and Bologna.[1] In 1981 he was called up to the Italian U-21 squad but did not go on to make a competitive appearance.[2]

He became director of football at Associazione Sportiva Roma in 1999, where he remained until his resignation in March 2005.[1]

He joined Fabio Capello at Real Madrid in 2006.[1]
When Capello took over as the England manager in December 2007, Baldini became assistant manager.[3] His role at the national team of England involved scouting, managing the supporting staff (e.g. the doctors, physiotherapists, masseurs and kit managers) and making the job as easy as possible for his Italian counterpart. He left England after their successful EURO 2012 qualification and joined Roma before the start of 2012, but was assisting the team far before then. Since then, current Roma manager Luis Enrique, director Walter Sabatini and himself have undergone a huge revolution at the club with new owner Thomas Di Benedetto to try and instil a system of running a football club similar to that of FC Barcelona. After leaving AS Roma, Baldini was appointed as [[]] 's sporting director

Everyone wants to be the new Barca!

    Wish number 2

Spurs blood many of their youth prospects into the first team, and all are able to show their world class wonderkid potential.
As a show of unity they all go out and get Tatoos of the cockeral on ball and vow to stay at spurs and become the new Giggs/becks/nevilles.
Bale likes the future potential at the club and desides he also would like to stay forever and ever....

I don't see the point of a DoF and given your past experiences in this regard, I'd be surprised if any of you did either.

Completely agree. We are now in the embarrassing situation where we have a "Technical Director" and a "Sporting Director". One is/will be Baldini and the other is Sherwood. God only knows what the difference between the two positions is supposed to be, but it sounds good, so many go along with it.

It's a case of too many cooks.

I can understand specialist coaches, fitness trainers, dieticians etc, but when it comes to communication between the board and the manager (which is what I believe technical and/or sporting directors are meant to be employed to arrange), surely it's far better, simpler and more effective if they just speak directly?

If the common consensus is that Spurs have a good chairman in Levy and a good up and coming manager in AVB, what do all these others need to be chipping in for?

Hi SC, is it the case still that Levy may not always be available with his time? If thats right, is this not a step to make sure Sherwood isn't left in charge of important matters, given his previous record with such things? I would agree with that principle, but not the choice we've made. It brings a question, is there an order of rank atm?

For those who like me know little of the bloke...

    "FRANCO BALDINI - ASSISTANT

Baldini first worked with Capello in 1999 when he was appointed director of football at Roma. They won the Serie A title in 2001 and, after Capello left in 2004, Baldini resigned in March 2005. The pair joined up again at Real Madrid in 2006.

    Franco Baldini
Baldini could be the man to liaise with Premier League bosses

The 47-year-old carries a reputation as an international transfer fixer and talent spotter, which has seen him heavily linked with the newly created technical director's post at West Ham, but Capello feels his opinion and knowledge of players is priceless.

A number of board members expressed reservations that Baldini's role might clash with the FA's director of football development, Sir Trevor Brooking, but Capello is thought to have won the battle to bring his right-hand man along.

Baldini is likely to be the man who liaises with the 20 Premier League managers - often fronting up as the public face of the new 'Team England' and speaking to the media.

He is Capello's closest football confidant and is often charged with telling players they have been dropped."

He's certainly been linked with the best! <whistle>

FRANCO BALdini ... Gareth FRANK BALe.

    This is too coincidental.

I hope Levy isn't giving us a Franco Bal to replace a Frank Bale...

Now I'm off to sell my theory to the Mirror.

You may have unearthed something there WY! But did it occur to you that this is being revealed ON A FRIDAY!!! That's right, a day when traditionally many secrets are reveled (as well as many things that are not so secret... providing they have not been revealed on other days of the week). It's just too much of a coincidence!

Has he actually been confirmed as DoF?

I looked on the OS but nothing is mentioned there.
