Not sure if any of you heard about this today, but Norway's big gold medal hope for the Olympics in swimming has died. It sounded like he had something that was similar to Fabrice Muamba.

You may or may not know, but he was Rangers. He was a massive star back in Norway and always talked in interviews that he was Rangers.

Not sure if the club were actually aware that he was Rangers, but it would be nice given he is a fellow professional athlete that they recognised that.

    Norway...can you confirm...?

Never heard of him personally, but any loss is a big loss..especially a member of the QPR family...

    RIP young R !

There is a worrying number of these hitting major athletes. I did not know he was a QPR fan, but then I don't follow swimming!

What is with those young major athletes ,footballers and swimmers etc. ? They seem to drop like flies. It just tragic but you have think is somekind of drug or stimulate behind these deaths? Tragic death to young man and he could not have been all bad if he was a "ranger".

They push their bodies to the limits so any heart problem will happen. He might have lived a normal life if he was in an office job only doing light exercise.

But given his choices and opportunities, who would want to do that.
Like i say, apparently a QPR fan, but a sad loss no mater who he supported. Amen

I was not aware he was a QPR supporter. Yesterday I was about to post a condolence thread in his memory, but not sure if it was fitting on this forum I decided not to. Had I known he was an R I would not have hesitated.

What a gigantic loss we as a nation experienced with the tragic passing of one of the greatest athletes in the world. To come from Norway and succeed in such a narrow sport as swimming is truely amazing. He was one of the biggest favourites to win in London this summer, for me that says a lot in sport dominated by swimming nations like Australia and the USA.

Alexander Dale Oen put down 1500 hours of training a year, swam up to 65000 meters each week. Unbelievable numbers if you think about it, but a clear reason why he was so succesfull.

But is was his persona and the fantastic human being he was that should be remembered the most, a more pleasant man you'd struggle to find.

A feel for his family, Alexander, may you rest in peace.

This is all in Norwegian with pics, but Joey, Clint and HH have delivered a No 17 shirt signed by all the QPR squad with Alexander Dale Oen's name on it, to the Norwegian Supporters Club. Oen had tipped QPR to win the PL in 2012!, and Joey was apparently his favourite player. Good one Joey, Clint, HH and all!
