Players are commonly having buyout clauses inserted into their contracts, so that should another team covet their services they are able to transfer so long as the buyout price is met. Would it be possible for us to insert such a clause into Mr Neil's contract? The time will inarguably come when a "higher ranked" club will be in need of a new manager, and could start making overture to entice him away. If we had, for instance, a £20M clause, any suitor would know they would have to stump up serious money to land their target. And we would know that we would be suitably compensated for losing our prize asset. This is all fun and conjecture, I can never see it ever occurring, but would Mr McNally be the first to change the status quo?
Very interesting thought GE and one that would be good to explore. I guess that there would be a downside in that if we wanted to offload AN (obviously this is not a current thought but you take my point) then we might have to pay out a lot of compensation. as a counter-balance to the effective hand-cuffing the other way. I would be really interested in the view of others on this one.
