Flyer - the Official Version

I’ve never been one for washing dirty linen in public and had hoped that it could be avoided in this case, but it would appear that the general appetite to know the facts is going to outweigh my belief that it would be easier for Flyer to return with as few people as possible knowing these circumstances.

So then cast your minds back to the first pre-season friendly match this summer. QPR were away to Rot Weiß Erfurt, and the club had kindly provided us with a legal stream to watch. Within minutes of the kick off Flyer was being his usual self:

As was Swords:

Flyer continued in his usual vein:

And Swords responded with words to the effect of he couldn’t stand another season of Flyer, he was going to track him down and kill him.

The thread continued without anyone blinking, there were several respected posters (in my eyes at least) who posted on the same page of the same thread who didn’t give a seconds thought to Swords’ post; they either didn’t notice it or treated it as the joke that it was intended as.

I was out at this point but arrived home to be greeted by the one and only ever complaint I’ve received from Flyer. Rather than liaise with Nines, I instantly PMed Swords and got him to remove the offending post, which he did without any fuss, excusing himself as only messing with Flyer. I replied that I knew this otherwise he would have been immediately banned.

I Pmed Flyer to tell him that Swords had removed the offending post and to check that he did understand that it was only a joke. Flyer wasn’t interested and demanded that Swords permanently banned. I wasn’t prepared to do that over an obvious joke. Yes it was a poor joke, but it was clearly a joke.

Flyer was less than impressed, instructed me to delete his account (which has not been done) and left. I admire his principles, but not his judgement.

To my knowledge that is the only “threat” made to Flyer; Swords is not currently around to defend himself, but I know it wasn’t serious.

I acted without reference to Nines throughout this as I hoped to “nip it in the bud”. Should enough of you, without grudges against Swords, feel that I got this wrong I will stand down immediately, but I categorically stand by my decisions.

 

You got it right and should not stand down unless you've had enough of this thankless task.

Real shame that it ended this way, echo your thoughts about Flyer sticking with his principles and maybe the consistent disagreements got to him in the end

 

I don't think you'll find many dissenters Roller. Judged perfectly in my humble opinion.

 

I don't disagree with your decision at all Roller. Both you and Nines do a great job on here, it must be tough at times.

 

I think this was handled correctly in this instance.

I myslef have had run ins with swords in the early days of this board but as this is an online forum for people to discuss and have their opinions, I didnt take it to heart. I dont really get irked and wound up by internet posts as I have more important things to worry about in real life.

 

Fair dues to you Roller for stepping up to the plate to fill this role. I don't envy you the task. All of us on here share something special and because of it I hate it when threads degenerate into personal attacks and abuse. Flyer seemed an honourable guy and it is a shame he has left. Hopefully he will be back some day. Keep up the good work Roller.

Taken a similar situation Roller, I would probably have come to the same conclusion.

It's a shame Flyer's decided to "walk" though, he'll be missed. Maybe a "bring back our Flyer" campaign could change his mind!!!!

I would like to publicly apologize to Roller as it may have been me who forced his hand on this situation. I read a post about Flyer getting abuse and I got a bit upset about it so I sent our Roller a not very well thought out PM rant.

I did not know the facts of the situation.

Please forgive me for the aggro this has caused.

Roller I don't envy what you do on here. I would hate having to turn the computer on a deal with this **** day in day out. I think we all trust your judgment. Good luck with it.
As for flyer I don't think he got what it means to be a QPR fan.
