Apparently our medical staff decided it will be a practical idea to give our best players flu injections days before what was probably their biggest game of the season. Flu jabs can occasionally produce flu like symptoms in the patient as well as extreme tiredness and fatigue. So we not only had a draining European night to deal with, we were probably up against it even before we stepped out onto the pitch at OT. Way to go medical team! <ok>

To be honest, I was thinking in the first half our players may be down with something because they just looked strange out there, not pressing properly, something didn't seem right, either they were completely **** today, or they were carrying the flu.

It's a rumour. I do know for sure that both Arteta, Rosicky, Mertesacker, Ozil and Cazorla were all affected. Not been the first time it's happened this season anyway.

Flu jab doesn't cause Flu because there are no active viruses in the vaccine.

Its proven that the Flu jab can create some flu/cold like symptoms but not the Flu. This would have weakened the players had they taken the injection.

Can the flu jab cause flu?
No. The vaccine does not contain any live viruses, so it cannot cause flu. You may get a slight temperature and aching muscles for a couple of days afterwards, and your arm may feel a bit sore where you had the injection. Other reactions are rare and flu jabs are very safe.

So if the decision to give all the players the flu jab before a big game would have been foolish. But obviously if this is true.

In all honesty when else could you give a flu jab.Whenever they would have been given would have been a few days before a game.We are now in November and the flu season is nearly upon us.Giving someone a flu jab now seems like a sensible idea to me.My wife is diabetic and was given a flu jab yesterday,my 83 year old mother had hers in the last couple of weeks,my grandchildren were given their's last week.

I've never had a flu jab, neither have my kids. We're all fine. When you look at the ingredients of a flu jab it turns me right off.

Aluminum, Triton X-100 -- a detergent, Phenol (carbolic acid), Ethylene glycol (antifreeze), Betapropiolactone - a disinfectant Nonoxynol - used to kill or stop growth of STDs, Octoxinol,- a vaginal spermicide, Sodium phosphate.

Flu jabs can and often do give some flu like symptoms like muscle ache and fatigue.

others contain Formaldehyde!!, gentamicin sulfate, hydrocortisone, octoxynol-10, á-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate, polysorbate 80, sodium deoxycholate, ovalbumin

Its all "just incase **** happens" kind of thing. People rarely get the flu and most often than not, its just a heavy cold. I think the last time i got the flu was many moons ago when i was a little kid. Leading a healthy life, eating a balanced diet and exercise is better than any ****ty pill or injection you can take. Of course, if its an emergency then take it.

Yeah those of us who are couch potatoes are likely to be more susceptible. Being healthy and disinfect the hands to prevent spreading of germs is the best defence.
I have yet to see any proof though that the flu jab prevents flu though.

I think though that there is enough evidence to show that the jab given to healthy athletes before a game can effect their physical condition and maybe it's just me but Arsenal looked lethargic at OT, the cut and thrust was completely absent.

Arsenal were in the first half. As for the flu jab, i will continue not to take it. My mum has never got the flu and when she started taking the Flu jab she started getting ill. Go figure.

Very good point<ok> When you look at what is in it, and when you see who does the majority of the research on it which is the Pharma corps that make the freaking stuff, you do have to wonder.

Agreed on the whole big Pharma thing. Not sure about the Flu jab but there is a lot of crap in Chemists that you really don't need. An excellent book on this is Big Pharma and another one called Bad Science. It goes into how bad things really are in the murky world of big business.

Older people and people with heart conditions etc are candidates for a flu vaccine due to weakness/poor immune systems but professional footballers should not need them given their physical condition. Seems a strange one to me and wouldn't be so sure to believe this rumour.
