SUNDERLAND boss Martin O'Neill is ready to make his move for Wolves £10m-rated striker Steven Fletcher.
The Black Cats boss now has the go-ahead from chairman Ellis Short to bid for the Scot following the completion of Asamoah Gyan's permanent switch to UAE outfit Al Ain.
The Gyan's deal meant Sunderland banked another £6m from the departure of their £13m club record buy and with high-earning Arsenal loanee Niklas Bendtner off the wage bill, cash has been freed up for O'Neil to step up his interest in Fletcher.
The two clubs are still some way apart on Fletcher's valuation, but with the striker keen to move to Wearside, the Black Cats believe a deal can be done with the relegated Midlands club.
O'Neill is still tracking Blackburn's free agent Junior Hoilett, who can leave Ewood Park for a compensation fee as he is under 24.
North-East rivals Newcastle cooled their interest in Hoilett once they became aware of his wage demands. But QPR and several European clubs are chasing him.

£10 MILL, is a lot of bread for a player of his calibre, surely theres an undercurrent which MoN is hiding. I hope so. cos for that sort of money, Id expect better.

I don't know enough about this bloke to comment. He did well against us last season, but he wasn't alone in that.

Does seem a lot of dosh, but there's many on here who rate the lad highly.

    At risk of repeating myself.....

£10 million for a proven 1 in 3 24 year old as opposed to £11-15 million for a glamourously named unproven foreigner is a ****ing snip. Yes?

I can only repeat what I have said before, I look at the player not the price.

The player is what I will have to watch week in week out, the one who will excite me or not, will make me cheer or moan.

The price is not my concern, if we can only bring in freebies then I am concerned because it affects our growth but 1 mil or 15 mil for Fletcher means little to me. It's what we have Short, O'Neill and Byrne for, they know what they are prepared to pay and what's affordable so if they pay 10mil, and I don't think they , then that's fine.

Hope we sign him, I'm with syd, I'm not arsed how much we pay, he'd be the ideal man up front imo

But that's the point, we are not, it's up to the club to deem what they are willing to pay...

would love Fletcher and Hoilett at the club, they are two players that would walk into our team and add so much to what we already have.

If we can get these two in then it will be a great start (along with Cuellar) as far as incoming transfers are concerned

Although it the deal does not excite me its better than we have ath moment.
£10 mill for a striker these days is not much look at Carrol and torres now i know he maybe not that calibre and he only knows how much better he can get its a better deal than Whickham was for £8 mill.

I would love Hoilett and N,Zonzi
Its also rumored today about Collins and Agbolahor from Villa.
A snippet about the Spanich defender Ivan Ramis is keen to come to England with Villa and Sunderland interested but
    FFS not Richard Dunne

I care about the price we pay on transfers.

I seen Leeds and Portsmouth not caring about the transfer fee's they were paying and don't want Sunderland to go down that road.
