I agree with Flappy, and have always found Flano's play easy (in a positive sense) and quite humbly graceful though there are more technically gifted FBs out there. It's more than his effort that I appreciate. He does the basics very well. Except for crossing and the longer pass - he has to work on that.
yes god loves a trier. i do too but i can still say he is average without fear or favor cos its not an insult just a fact... i can appreciate his guts and work rate just as much as anyone.

Good point MITO. **** shelling out 10-15m on a player, let's go to the none-league teams and just get a real athlete for 100k. I'm surprised the teams scrapping for relegation haven't figured this out, get three triers like Henderson, Allen and Lucas and team and watch them boss the Spurs midfield, or match up to the City midfield, or boss generally most teams. All they need is people who run and try really hard. What a load of bollocks. You honestly think people like Flanagan, Allen, Henderson are just triers? Flanagan matched up to Januzaj, a player who must full-backs have had nightmares against this season and bettered him, effectively had the lad in his pocket. The timing of the tackles, the maturity on the ball and picking the right times to break forward. If he was Brazilian would you be calling him a trier? Or just because he's a young scouse lad who many had written off, probably including yourself. I'm not having a go mate but your argument is flawed.. The players mentioned have all played parts in being where we are in the table now, 2 of which have featured in midfield, arguably the most crucial area on the pitch, and they've played very well. And yes, that includes Allen, who when has played has been superb. I don't mind them being "triers" if they're putting in these performances week in week out.
To be fair to MITO - I agree with his points. These players can be important squad players for many years. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting better players who are better on the ball as well as off of it. Allen and Henderson are brilliant off the ball in terms of pressing and spatial awareness - very underrated qualities. They are capable in terms of attacking intent but need to show more consistency. Flanagan has heart, desire and can put in strong challenges. Whilst he is getting better, he will get ripped by anyone with pace as we've seen this season. If we want to become the best, then we need to be bringing in better quality and that applies to everyone, not just the players above. We should always strive to get in the best. But at the same time, the best squads also have the triers who are always on hand to provide competition and an option to rotate and cover injuries.
