Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has revealed that he expectsLee Cattermole to return to full training next week.

The midfielder has been out of action since suffering a knee injury during the Black Cats' goalless draw with Aston Villa on December 28.

Almost a fortnight ago, Poyet suggested that Cattermolemay need surgery, but it appears that the 26-year-old is recovering well.

"If everything goes as planned he should be training with us on Monday," the Chronicle quotes Poyet as saying. "To have Lee back will be a huge boost."

Sunderland are currently two points above the relegation zone in the Premier League table

Please Gus - don;t rush hium back to play his first game like other managers have - get him FULLY fit - give him half an hour at the end of a game! We need to make sure he's going to be playing for the rest of the season and not just half a game!!

    Edit:
One thing about the "Gus in/Gus out" debate is this lad - he has improved more as a player since Poyet took over than anyone. Poyet is responsible for his development so he obviously has something good about him! I'd worry if the wrong manager came in and got rid of him!! Much like RAW I'm still behind Gus and I agree with his football philosophy - I simply can;t work out why he is rising to bait about the fans from the press as this is something they are going to keep on doing.

    Great news that like. !

With Catts back, both Alvarez and Defoe will certainly benefit from his service.

Totally agree! Catts has been a massive loss the last 5 or 6 weeks.

We've missed his drive and determination

God knows what he thinks when he watches Gomes playing

Yeah. Still looked at a number of his bookings which were for nothing compared to what others have got away with!! Still better he gets back now!!

Good to have him back but we're still not going to win games until Gus finds some ****ing balls. Catts has been fit most of the season and we've won 4 games. I wouldn't pin my hopes on Catts, the ball is very much in Poyet's court to sort this out.

This is true but surely there`s no arguing Catts makes a hell of a difference?

Also remember we didn`t have Defoe then. Catts breaking up play plus more at the sharp end, the improvement could be massive.

Could do. Catts coming back into the team is a given. I dread the thought of Gus pinning his hopes on him though, otherwise we're ****ed.
