Sorry its not about pompey but just a quick question. Does anybody know what the Fifa world rankings are based on?

The rankings were updated today and placed England in 4th above countries such as Brazil, Argentina and Italy. I find it hard to believe that England are the 4th best in the world especially as we are struggling to win a quite straight forward euro qualification group and have under performed greatly in major tournaments.

Only a couple of 100 points seperating England and 18th place Uruguay. Bout 700 points seperating England and top place Spain. My take on England is they can rise to the occasion and beat anyone on a given day and then lose to the Vatican.

Any given day? Is that a day which occurs every 4 or 5 years? I thought that Saints showed more imagination and enterprise than the last few times I have seen England play!

Can't argue with you that England have looked poor as of late. Still, I did say "on a given day", not "any given day". There is a differance.

How we are 4th I don't know - but the evidence of why England has failed as a national side is only shown by the gulf to 1st place with Spain.

20 years ago, the spanish national side were poor to average - they built for the future and no when you see the Barca team being full of Spanish internationals - you know England got it wrong.
