In all seriousness, the death penalty should never be reintroduced, it's a barbaric punishment. For many people, living the rest of their days in prison may be more of a deterrent.

So the victims of their crimes can pay taxes to keep the convict in a relatively comfortable lifestyle, instead of all the tax money being put to a better use...like the NHS etc.

When someone you love loses their life as a result of a violent crime & then the detained is given detention until their 18 (which is expunged on release) due to a claimed dysfunctional childhood brought about by substance abuse you might change your opinion. There is always two sides.

I honestly think the death penalty is a subject to leave alone, its a very personal thing and IMO a subject that will have strong sincere views on both sides.

Why not is personal on a forum, it is a chance to exchange views...........

Il live in a country where the penalty still exsists, and for certain crimes it is justified....

You can't use money to justify an action. There would also be less burden on the health service if we were to kill all babies born with a defect, but obviously that's morally wrong. There's also the room for error etc., if a mistake was made and an innocent person was in jail, yes it's a huge mistake, but there's the possibility of a way back. If he's dead, it's a lot harder to take the punishment back!

What if someone you love is killed by the state? There's still another side.

This whole thread started due to some nutter stabbing a 4 year old...

Now if this child had died, and he was your child, i'm guessing you would change your views........

Of course not, I wouldn't want somebody to die because of what they did to my child. How would that solve anything? I would want them to be punished, of course, but at the end of the day I'd be just as bad as him for wanting him dead as he was in killing this kid.

Thats because prison has become too soft.

Labour camps - get the ****ers working and paying for their own stay in prison. They can grow their own food, sew their own clothes, repair/maintain roads, fix the **** UK rail lines - proper chain gang work in general.

Sex offenders should be accessed on a case by case basis and castrated when applicable - "true" predators should be castrated, drunken stupidity not unless they do it again (in which case they become a predator) .

    I agree with the above.

This is a sick but it happens, there is a loon who keeps ringing up our work threatening to kill the staff, he put a bottle over an old ladies head during the day outside our front door and the police say he has got mental issues but there is nothing they can do because it only happens when he stops taking his medication. He goes away for a while for whatever crime he had committed and then comes back as soon as he is let out. He is going to end up killing someone.
