Strange last night not to hear the players being booed.
I thought that was the done thing these days at England games.

It's okay, my wife was booing at home...

Mind you, we weren't watching the football...which wasn't good from my point of view.

We were ****in terrible to watch. Why does Woy insist on playing players so out of position? He's going to really **** op any remote chance we had of winning the tournament by trying to accommodate Wooney in the side.

What's England's best formation then? 4-3-3? Dele Alli certainly needs to be in an advanced position. Kane upfront certainly. Rooney will have to fit into the team whether you like it or not. Something like this?

    ---------------------- Kane -----------------------

    -------------- Alli ------------- Rooney ---------

    ---- Lallana ----- Dier ----- Henderson ----

    Rose ----- Cahill ---- Smalling ---- Walker

    ------------------------ Hart -----------------------

Flexibility for Alli//Lallana & Rooney/Henderson to attack on the flanks, yet heavy reliance on the full-backs to go forward and provide the width. Kane can work the opposition CBs for 60-70 mins, then Vardy on and balls in behind for him to use his pace against tired legs. There is no point playing Vardy in a different way to how he has been playing for Leicester - balls into space behind and his pace wins the day - and I'm just not convince by Kane and Vardy up front at the same time.

Anyone else got any bright ideas on the line up?

Overall, I want to see these English players play like they do in England with the pace and intensity of the Premier League. Closing down fast and in numbers. There has been a mentality for decades with the English national team of them thinking they have to play slowly for some reason, just because it's international football, and playing it sideways and walking around the pitch. Playing it safe basically and not taking risks. Fearing the opposition. You just won't win tournaments like that.

Best England performance under Woy was the win in Germany when surprise surprise the Merseyside Shrek didn't feature. Rooney hasn't had a good game for England since 2004 no matter what anyone says. The fact that he is our all time top scorer is shocking. Overrated player.

    I would play:

    ------------------Hart----------------------
    Walker----Cahill----Smalling----Rose
    -------------------Dier---------------------
    ------------Barkley--Henderson--------
    --------------------Alli----------------------
    -------------Rooney-Kane--------------

I think Roy will find a way to shoehorn Sturridge, Rooney, Sterling and Wilshere in though <laugh> I don't mind Rooney or Vardy starting, but its Rooney or Vardy for me. I'd just prefer Rooney on basis he'll retain possession better and Vardy's pace can hurt them late on.

A mate of mine wouldn't start Kane, Rooney or Vardy. He'd start with Rashford and Sturridge - he reckons movement and goalscoring wise they are a better bet at international level.

Personally I toyed with Wilshere, Barkley, Milner, Henderson. I came to the conclusion they're all much of a muchness and to be honest, are not really good enough when we get in deep against the better sides.

Look at the midfields they'll come up against -

Spain - Fabregas, Iniesta, Busquets, Thiago, Silva, Koke
Germany - Can, Khedira, Kroos, Ozil, Schweinstiger
France - Cabaye, Matsuidi, Kante, Pogba, Schneiderlin
Portugal - André Gomes, João Moutinho, Renato Sanches, William Carvalho

That's just 4 nations. Those teams will pick three to match up against Dier and whichever two you pick. We'll be chasing shadows looking at that. Technically your best bet would be Barkley and Wilshere. I just think they don't have the overall nous between the two of them.

I don't think England are good enough. I think they have a poor midfield, lack genuine defensive quality in the middle at the back. We have quality strike options, quality full backs and quality keepers. The players in those areas match up with any other country. However games are often won and lost in that central midfield area, we just don't have it.
