Yet another desolate Saturday evening looms.... Listened to the commentary on radio Bristol this afternoon, sounded like a really poor game in the first half - Leeds were dreadful, we were slightly better. All a poor Leeds side had to do was to raise their game marginally second half and despite us chucking the kitchen sink at them, it was still enough to beat us - LEEDS 1 SHOT ON TARGET ALL GAME, and it was the winner, . Says it all really. WE DESPERATELY NEED SOME MORE HELP, where are the battle hardened warriors with championship experience that we need. There are 7 days left of the transfer window so get involved personally Mr Lansdown and go and speak to the players we want to sign cos they are clearly not interested in speaking to the monkey(s). We need:- a). a midfielder or 2 who doesn't take 537 hours contemplating the meaning of life before playing a through ball b) a striker or 2 who can convert a one on one chance with the goalkeeper Even when Kodjia was through on goal, it never sounded like we were going to score. Meanwhile, Dack scores the winner for Gillingham this afternoon - oh the irony....
We all know the problems and shortcomings apart from the clu NB seemingly. 2 defeats on the spin, so am expecting Pemberton to be appointed on the cheap on Monday to ensure we go down.
Lansdown isn't listening and I think it's beyond his understanding to see why we are so upset at his dictatorial hold over Bristol City, because it is so clear that's hjow wqe operate. How many trained minions are there down in BS3 whose sole job is to keep piling sand on the ostriches heads? Who's running the asylum other than SL, and is anyone other than the big kahuna allowed to have an opinion? How many more seasons are we to be fed this crap from Lansdown and believing he treats his most reliable source of income (you) like third class citizens makes the situation even more dinsulting.
And you can expect more of the same I'd imagine when Junior takes over. I've heard from a source that Lansdown and Dawe don't get on, and rarely speak to each other, so that's quite telling, and could well be a reflection of the chaos inside the club. Have also heard that Dawe is stepping down in the Summer to pursue his farming interests having bought lots of land over the past couple of years. That's apparently when Lansdown Junior will become Chairman.
Football is a tricky business. Many owners / chairmen have seen that a fool and his money are easily parted. Anyone who thinks that SL is resigned to failure is deluded. He is a ferocious competitor and will eventually come out on top. I used to work for the guy many years ago and know how driven he is. He's entered a world where money is no guarantee of success. A good manager today is no guarantee of being a good manager tomorrow, especially with a different group of players. Mistakes have been made. Mistakes will be made but we're not alone in this predicament. We're frustrated as we've come off the best season many of us can remember since the heady days of promotion back in the 70's. We've at last found success again. Some of our younger fans enjoyed success for the first time and it was magic. Now we're fighting for our lives and it sucks. Clearly we're in a state of turmoil and need a steadying hand at the helm of both the playing side and the business side. Throwing money in desperation is not the answer. Financial fair play means we have to be smart and that takes time. We don't want to be the next Bolton or Portsmouth. I'm as frustrated as the rest of you but think we all need to take a collective deep breath and have some faith in the club and those that run it. It would be a bad season if we get relegated. None of us want that. But a worse season would be to make short term knee jerk reactions that fail, we end up in a worse predicament and fall foul of FPP and get a transfer embargo or fine. That will set us back many years. Yep, I want to see some action on the management and transfer fronts. But I want my club to have a future and will swap a season of misery to ensure that we have the chance of another season like last year.
HE GOT THE CREDIT FOR IT ! AH but it is not that simple, last season we did the rareish thing and came back up on the second attempt look at that massive club in the midlands still trying ... Absolutely see my reasoning on another post.. so which part of the complex which was quite small many years ago were you in? you are surmising he isn't ... he maybe as frustrated as us!
Then he should do something to address the problems, but the simple fact is he isn't - or at least isn't appearing to do so, and therein lies the rub.
assume you are talking about SL? IT is not always prudent to put someone in charge and then interfere ... in many guises this comment, above, has been made by a number of others on here .. SL is no idiot Its taken me 50 plus years to be worth almost £.5m took him less to add half a dozen 0's to that
If Cotterill had been allowed the funds to spend on players when he asked for it (i.e. back in May last year) we would not be having this conversation. But i'm afraid that someone at Bristol City wants to get success on the cheap, and refuses to listen to his manager. That is why we don't have a championship quality strike force, and why we are quoted prices up to ten mil for players who are fairly run-o-the-mill… Its also why we lost the best manager we have had since 2008
Tricky business indeed brightred but when you look around the leagues and see many teams that have overcome worse situations than us and succeeded, doesn't it make you ask why not us? The mysterious happenings at Ashton Gate quite often boggle the mind especially when you consider we have a very astute businessman at the helm, and his willingness to inject money has never been in doubt, and yet we appear to overlook the obvious flaws to focus on something less important. I have an awful feeling that if Sainsburys were to have built a new store on our site then the building would have been world class but the new owners would have forgotten to order the food. Is there something in the soil down at Ashton Gate or is it my imagination?
