Massive news and deserves it's own thread, he's going at the end of the season.

I said I thought this would be his last season much earlier in the year but I must admit I'm still surprised.

More than anything I'm intrigued to see what happens at United now and it's probably down to what a great manager he is that I say I won't miss him one jot :D

I don't have much time for the man himself, but I admire his achievements which will never be surpassed. Mourinho to Old Trafford?!

The best British manager ever ?

To win the championship with a average to good but not great team , against the buy your trophies City and Chavs is
outstanding. Best time to go , as UTD without a new change of direction will find it harder than ever to compete with those
2 as they will easily buy pass the new fair play rules. Corruption wins in this world.

"you don't know what you've got till it's gone".

For all the moaning we all do about the guy, it's sad news for football. It's next season when we won't see him every week in interviews, chewing gum or having a rant, that we'll realise how one of the games' "characters" is no longer with us.

Ferguson has been at United since I started following football as a lad. It's going to be very very strange seeing anyone else in that dug out.

Mourinho won't go to United. We can only dream of it, but it won't happen. He's not stupid.
Mourinho needs money, which united don't have in abundance like Chels & City. He's had it everywhere he's been, which is why some people still have doubts over his managerial skills, and how good he really is. There's no way he'll follow in the footsteps of Ferguson, only to be the one who "fails". His ego would take such a beating and he's not prepared for that.
In the same way that Ferguson knows that Chelsea and city can outspend them, (which is probably why he's got out with reputation intact before it's too late), Mourinho won't want to have that financial restriction.

I'll be amazed if he's not at Chelsea next season.

Its even had the sports talkback here running hot.
The quiet tip is that his successor will be David Moyes, got no prob with that.

    Benitez to Everton?!? <whistle>

  15. Less sure about this actually due to the alleged financial sums that were apparently paid by Abramovic when he left Chelsea, together with the high buyout figure now being touted. Cannot see Roman being £70m down and back in the same position he was 4 years ago!! That will take a lot of back-tracking and Russian Oligarchs are not known for their pragmatism or sentimental qualities.......

Why would they go for Moyes?

    He's ok, but hardly proven.

They should be looking at a Klopp, or a Conte, or even heynkes. Someone that will get the attention and respect of the players there. I can't for one minute imagine Nani or Rafael taking too being scolded by Moyes when they have a much better collection of trophies than he does.

I think it will be Moyes. Only for the reason that it was rumoured long ago that he was Fergie's chosen successor. He may be retiring, but he will have a massive say in who replaces him. Of that you can be sure.

Yeah I expect it too, can't see it being Mourinho now, he's dropped too many hints to not go to Chelsea and if he knew about it all along and that when he was going to England he was going to United he wouldn't have wummed all the Chelsea fans in the process. Gonna be a Hell of a season next year.

To think Utd will be in the Championship in the 2014/2015 season is mad! :D

Jokes aside, thought the guy was a prick but SAF was the greatest manager of our generation.

I reckon Moyes is nailed on for the job but wouldn't completely rule out Mourinho just yet. Though I'd say Moyes to Utd is pretty much 95% done already.
