He's a very good tactician though, this is what weve lacked for 2 or 3 years. I'm hoping he'll make us tighter at the back.

What I am reading is a different and subtle change in language between FM and RM. Magath is saying he will definitely keep Fulham up, I didn't hear that from RM. That could have been the fact that his future wasnt secure after this season who knows but its a definite shift in words. Does any one else see/hear it?

There is an irony that Khan and Ali, in hoping to move away from hope and luck that they clearly felt Rene was relying on, chose to appoint a man whose first name is luck.

Depends on how he lines us up and the way players react to new regime. Based on his record I'd say it's a good appointment but not at the best time. If we get the win at WBA then I'll have confidence. Mitro's screamer for the u21's is promising.

I've lived in Germany 10 years, and while that doesn't make me an expert, I do know this about Germany authority and management. The key concept in German management of all kinds is Kompetenz (competency). If you rise to the position of software project manager, master auto mechanic, certified chimney sweeper (don't get me started on that one), they have invariably passed all the Kompetenz examinations and absolutely will not tollerate you questioning their decisions. To question is to suggest they are not Kompetent.

Case in point: 10 years ago there was a talented American brought over to play for a Bundesliga 1 team. He was there for weeks without getting a sniff of 1st team football. Finally, in a game that could best be described as a hopeless losing cause (the team was down 3-0, late), the manager sends on the American who promptly scores a minute later.

As he's trotting back to his side, looks at the manager and taps on his wrist as if to say "it's about time...". That (dumb) American never played another minute of football for that team.

No, that was Clint Mathis and the team was Hannover.

I got the story a little wrong: He came on and won the game over Schalke in the 81 minute. Here's the actual story:

Demps you cannot dangle the carrot and not expect someone to bite; what is relevance of the certified chimney sweep ???????

The more I read about Felix the more I think he is the man for us. Getting some organisation in the squad and some discipline is what is required at the moment. The players have to be 100% focused on the seriousness of what we face. For the next 12 games avoiding relegation is everything the players need to think about.

Don't they deserve a little holiday Froggie? All this work getting Fulham to 20 points must be exhausting.

I have a sneaky feeling that the past 6 months is going to feel like a holiday for the players after a few weeks of training !!!!

OK, so I had a house built here in Germany and, after it was constructed, opted to install a woodstove for heat since there's plenty of wood in the area for me to cut up and use. So I hire a guy to install a stainless steel chimney through the wall, which he does, making sure (per German rules) that no exposed wood was within 40 cm of the double-walled, insulated chimney that passes through the wall. The chimney sweep/inspector comes out and says: "That's no good. You have to install at your expense this giant piece of gypsum through which the pipe would pass. I argued with the guy about it, but the more I argued the angrier he got to the point I thought his head would explode. How dare I question his authority? Afraid I was going to put him through my wall, I got a friend from my German football team, also a chimney sweep, to come in and mediate. In the end, I had to cut an even bigger hole in my wall, install the 50 pound gypsum block and do everything his way, otherwise he'd call the state in to condemn the house.

As Cartman of Southpark says, "You will respect my authorit-ta!"

But the situation with the chimney is endemic of the relationship between Germans and their authority figures. The assumption is that if they're in authority, they're competent and they've earned that place, basically the opposite of the Italian view of authority.

Whether Felix will be good for the team is really the question, though. I think in the long run he will be, but I'm not convinced that bringing him at this point in the season is the best step toward maintaining our place in the league. And I think there will be a culture shock for some of the players who are used to a less regimented style of leadership.

Nonsense, the name has it's roots in the latin 'felix' which was a nickname meaning the lucky one. As in Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix, commonly know as Sulla the lucky.

Some of us posh ruperts studied Latin, you know!
