I have the perfect girlfriend, pretty, intelligent and funny (though not intentionally of course). She was oblivious to all things football and insisted on calling that American guff "football" as a result... However, having dated her for more than a year now, got her a season ticket next to me and had her actually involved she's more obsessed than I am...

I mean she knows what offside is and everything... She even used to read not606 regularly, before it went the way of the Dodo/Man Citeh fans' morality.

What's more amazing is that I've got her into F1, two hours of your life on a Sunday in which you are physically aware that your life is just ebbing away...

Anyway, the dilemma... What should I get her for her birthday this year? It is in December, but I want a plan.

Will we be playing Europa around Christmas because that might be a good idea if we're away in a nice country? (although I have a fear we'll be playing in some far eastern European country which has been tainted in my mind by Hostel/Hostel 2...)... Suppose it depends on us qualifying... What else could I get her in that instance?

Genius! See this is why I come on Not606 instead of bothering with sneakily asking her mates...

Get some tickets for a Grand Prix, some Travel Companies do the whole package, tickets, travel etc.

Does your girlfriend occasionally post on this forum?

I have to say she would love that, and the only reason I'd never considered it is because I'm not sure I'd like it (watching at home you get to see everything), but it is her day!

No she's never posted. She has an account, and she used to read it all the time, but when everyone left she stopped reading it.

F1 tickets are tricky though, the cost of the tickets themselves is huge, and unless you buy like the day the race date is announced, you'll struggle to get a hotel room anywhere near the track, unless you want to pay 10x the original room price. I tried to get a room for this years British GP, but could only get a room over 100 miles away from the track at any kind of reasonable price. Still, if you're loaded, it would be a great idea :p

Yeah, i've been to British GP twice out of the last 5 years. We booked out hotel in Milton Keynes the day the race calendar was released and paid 120 for our room. We were about 5 miles away from our chosen carpark and about 1 mile walk to the track. Tickets for the enitire weekend (Fri-Sun) are around £350 for general viewing (i.e. No fixed seat). This is the best in my opinion as the general viewing is immense down on club corner. Only problem was we woke up at 4am on the Sunday morning to make sure we were front row in the GA area we wanted. You could buy a seat in a grandstand and turn up just before the race but if you don't like your view of the track you're stuck with it and Grandstand seats are £450-£600.

Including travel, food, beverages, hotel, car parking, ticket and buying merchandise I spent close to £600. That could get you an all inclusive 5* holiday somewhere nice and hot. The sole reason why I've only been to Siverstone 2 out of 5 years.

Definately worth going though, as long as you're as committed as I was to get a decent viewing area. It is miles better being there and you can still see everything else on the track as there is huge screen in front of the all the grandstands and viewing areas.
