What would be a reasonable target for next season mine would be :

    Premier League ----- Top 8

    F.A Cup ------ Quarter final

    Carling Cup ------ Semi Final

This should be a target the players should set themselves if we get a few decent players in and not sell any of our top players!!!

I would target a win in any cup or just to not care at all, no sense in being happy just to get to a certain round. Go all out for it or play kids and focus on the league.

Depending on who we buy/sell, top 8 would be achievable in the PL and Europe wouldnt be out of the questio (still possible this year) and I'd be happy as long as we finish higher than this season to be honest, or at least amass more points.

i think no matter where we finish above 17th its been a memorable season for some high scoring results

  4. You can't really make a prediction on the cup. We got the two hardest ties in Arsenal and Chelsea in the carling cup, and could have gone much further. It's all about endurance, sense of occassion, and luck in the draw.

I'd rather get knocked out in the cups and see us finish high in the league. I don't really care too much about the cups. I'd love to go to wembley, but i'd love to be in Europe more.

If you dont see yourself winning the cup, might as well go out in the first round, no sense in wasting players and building up fixtures if you dont have the depth or quality to go for the final.

I think it's too early to predict yet. Too many unknowns; where will we finish this season, will we lose good players in the summer, who will we sign, who will the others teams sign?

Will start thinking about this in July.

I'm can't believe I'm walking the 'club statement' line, but I agree entirely with what they themselves said: Whatever we achieve/wherever we finish this season, next season I want us to do 1 better...Simple, undeluded, undiluted ambition!

id rather us be an established top 8 PL team and have the chance to go on cup runs but we need to buy a couple of young players id say between the ages of 18 - 26 to build for the future

Personally I think you should aim to win everything you enter, you might not be 'good' enough to win but you should give it your all and try to win. What happens when you get to the semi final (your target)? do you tell the players to go out and get beat? Of course not, you tell them they can win and you set them up to win. I'm not expecting to win the treble next year or any time soon and neither will the players but thats what I would target and thats what I would try to achieve.

  12. This.

I'd rather lose to Gateshead 5-0 in the first round, but finish in the top 8, then finish in a medicore position like 13/14th and get into the quater finals. I see no reason why we can't push for Europe.

Next season, if we do finish 7th this season, the league and Europe are my main concerns, not the carling and FA cups.

in my opinion MA should set some minimum expectations with squad payouts if they reach their targets

Dream on! He wouldnt give them more than their wages ;)

Im actually surprised we dont fine players more since MA is so stingy, Carroll could have lost a fair bit to him for his misdemeanors.

I never thought I'd say this, but *deep breath* RIP Barton's Tash, you are completely right.

I agree with the idea, it helps drive them on I'm just saying Ashley wouldnt give them extra money if could avoid it. Then again if money motivates them then maybe their mentality isnt right.

We could still end up finishing 15th, 16th or 17th here guys. If we stay up this season, we should be aiming to improve on our position next season and if we do manage to get a solid 11th or 12th place finish, we should be aiming for a top half finish next season which would be good progress. This is a long term project guys if we want to get back into Europe. Lets not expect too much too early.

Yes we have hit a bit of good form but lets not get carried away just yet. We still have to play Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool. Lets not underestimate Aston Villa and Stoke away. These are all games where we would all happily leave with a point and are games we could easily lose. Lets just not go into next season expecting great things because we have (probably) stayed up this season. Ever heard of 'second season syndrome'?
