Queens Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to confirm the appointment of Mike Rigg as the Club's new Technical Director.

Rigg, 43, arrives at Loftus Road after opting to leave a similar role at Manchester City, which he held since June 2008.

The move to W12 reunites Rigg with R's boss Mark Hughes, with whom he worked at the Etihad Stadium, as well as at Blackburn Rovers and the Welsh national team.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Rigg outlined his blueprint for the future, commenting: "I am very pleased to be here.

"When I sat down with the owners and Mark recently they sold the project at Queens Park Rangers to me. I see where they want to take the Club and it is something I want to be a part of." I have worked with Mark in a number of different roles so I have a very good understanding of what he wants and what he needs.

"Player acquisition is a big part of football and it is where an enormous amount of investment is made. That's where we must get it right.

"My role involves a mixture of looking at the immediate needs for the Football Club as well as trying to make sure we have a long-term plan in place for bringing players through into the First Team."

Rigg's main responsibilities will be to identify talent at every age group and in due course recruit such talent to the Club.

He will work with all departments to enhance the player development process in order to bring quality players into the Club's First Team, as well as our various age group squads.

Rigg's impressive CV includes roles as the Academy Manager of Sheffield Wednesday; Technical Director for the Welsh FA; and Chief Scout at Blackburn Rovers.

QPR CEO, Philip Beard, added: "This is a key appointment for the short and long term future of the Football Club.

"Mike has a proven track record at both domestic and international level and having worked closely with Mark in the past, knows how the Manager works and the standards he sets.

"This appointment outlines the Club's commitment to building for the future, in support of the First Team, as well as our ever-improving Academy set-up.

"We are committed to nurturing our own home-grown players over the coming years and part of Mike's remit will be to do that, as well as unearthing previously undiscovered talent to go straight into the First Team set-up."

I know it's been "out" there for a while but now it's official. Nice to hear their thoughts on the appointment.

Regardless of how last three games go this is another sign that the club is moving in the right direction.

Certainly adds weight to the fact that the fickle may have got it wrong when they claimed Hughes was off because we are relegated.
However we can all change our minds and pretend we didn't say it
If we lose Sunday then this bloke is a waste of money is he not?

This is very positive news. It obviously shows that our owners are thinking of the short, medium and long term and that they want the best people in the right positions. I think it also shows that we are going to be spending quite a bit of money in the coming years and they want to spend it wisely. They are slowly putting teh building blocks in place for a successful club.

What are you talking about now? If we are relegated then perhaps Hughes should be turfed out never mind leaving on his own free will.

He loooks so clean cut, must be MH's nephew! I am still trying to get my head around "Rigg's impressive CV includes roles as the Academy Manager of Sheffield Wednesday; Technical Director for the Welsh FA; and Chief Scout at Blackburn Rovers." What is so impressive about that - he doesn't seem to have got them too far!

Hughes' player recruitment has proved to be excellent (can't blame him for Cisse's moments of madness). So I'm optimistic about this appointment. If Rigg can find us good young talent, he'll be worth his weight in gold.

    Spot on JP.

This is Hughes influenced and there'd be no point wasting time on this with 3 games to go if there was speculation and uncertainty within Hughes' mind about his future.

(by the way I've never said we're definitely relegated)

Everyone has to move up through the ranks. The fact that he's gone on to better things each time is a good sign.

Citeh have had a class academy and player development organisation and set-up. Riggs will have seen what is needed to put together a system we have long desired and needed. At 43 his CV tells me he has held a range of positions that have driven him upwards within football. We will looking to see him put this all together and put in place one of the best youth and player development organisations in London - we have a hell of a lot of competition, so we need to get moving. Good progress for us, great investment in the future and LONG overdue!!!
For all you 'fickle' fans... here's to looking forwards and being positive!!! :)
