They're gonna have to have it away with a hell of a lot of satnavs to cover that even with Fellanis dosh.

Excellent striker, but could they have put all their eggs in one basket with this one?

Can fully understand why we weren't involved. Too much imo.

My thoughts exactly, I thought the fee would have been around £18m.

He could, theoretically, be at Everton for the next 10 years. Doesn't seem too much then. He should also be worth more than that if they sell him in a few years to PSG or Madrid

Massive splash by an owner I thought wanted out, but Everton aren't putting all their eggs into the Lukaku basket. They've made great additions to their squad over the last few years, and they're at a point where it's good enough overall that they can spend a vast proportion of their money on one potentially world class player. They don't need to invest massively elsewhere like we always seem to need to.

That should break Everton's bank surely?

Not the owner spending, Everton have a board of directors who own the shares in the club, Kenwright who is chairman doesn't have the money to splash like this, the club has money from Fellani but any big expenditure has to either come from revenue or loans, last accounts I looked at predate the 13/14 accounts and showed them with oustanding loans of £44 million, nett operating profit of £0.7million, the clubs operational overdraft facility with the banks is secured against the furture award money from the PL as well, they are run very tightly and as long as they remain in the top flight it all hangs together as it has done for a long time.

Interesting! Does that mean Kenwright is staying then?

Barkley's just signed a new 65k a week contract as well. Two great signings!

It is a lot. But he is good and when I have heard him talk before he is very ambitious and seems focused on becoming real good. He is right to want out of Chelsea he will never get better on the bench. Everton are a good team with a good manager. He will probably improve and 2 yeara time get a bigger move amd everton a few extra quid.

I think it's more a case of Kenwright not being able to sell, there's no queue of oil rich arabs or russians looking to buy clubs anymore, Aston Villa are up for sale and no one is interested. The other thing that occurs to me is that Everton have spent £28 million on Lukaku, although he is a good young PL experienced striker it is not really a step forward from last season, is there better value out there as well.

    You make a good point.
They will stand still from last year... at a cost of £28m + probably £5m a year in wages at £100k pw.

    Put it this way...

    Cabella + De Jong + Jamaat + Sissoko + Tiote + = less than £28m

Of course if one of those picks up a bad injury its a problem, if Lukaku does its a disaster.

To be fair - Everton have got a pretty decent starting 11. Two of the best full backs in the league, Barkley (just signed a long term deal, so if he goes they'll recieve a huge sum) and Lukaku up front, who will get them goals.

I think they signed a decent player in Besic (sp?) too.

Selling Fellaini helped the club massively it turns out.

Although 28mil is a lot of dosh for Lukaku, that's a given <ok>

Their main worry is squad depth, they don't really have any!!
