The Rafa effect might have a lot to do with it. When I lived in the North-West I used to go to our away game there every season with an Everton supporting mate. I used to wear my Newcastle top sitting in with the Everton fans and never once had any aggro - though I did get the piss ripped out of me by the whole of the Gwladys Street End one year when I jumped up thinking we had scored when the ball had only hit the side netting. I remember the year we absolutely robbed them and won 3-1. They outplayed us but somehow we won. Walked into a pub with my mate in Birkenhead after the game that was an Everton pub. It was like a scene from a western at first with the whole place going silent. I got the piss ripped out of me for a while, but didn't have to buy a drink all night. I know a lot might have been down to drink and niceties, but all night the Everton fans were telling me how we were one of their favourite teams. How times change!
Sorry lads, but I did warn you. It didn't help that Robles decided to play like a complete spanner either.
And just to make the Mackems result against Everton even harder to take we now won't get to see this...
Every club has it's bells mate, and unfortunately social media amplifies their voices. The reason some have an issue with the Toon these days is largely down to Pardew and the comments he made about us a few years back.
