Ryder Cup: Clarke, McGinley and Bjorn named as vice-captains

European captain Jose Maria Olazabal has named Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn as three of his four vice-captains to face the United States in their defence of the Ryder Cup.
The trio were selected by Colin Montgomerie as vice-captains for the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Olazabal will announce his fourth vice-captain, as well as his two wildcard picks, on 27 August.
"For me to have these guys by my side is fantastic," said Olazabal.
"All three are world-class golfers with tremendous experience of playing in the Ryder Cup which is absolutely invaluable."

The trio have played in 10 Ryder Cups between them, with nine wins to their credit.
"I am really pleased to be part of Jose Maria's team and I know that we can instil that relaxed atmosphere in the team room and help the captain get the best out of the players," said Clarke, who won the Open last year.

The Ryder Cup will take place at the Medinah Country Club, Chicago, from 28-30 September.

So it now it feels like we are getting close this years Ryder Cup with the Vice Captains being named by Olly... This could well be the hardest test for the Europeans for some time, so the wild card picks will be very important...

I will start a Ryder Cup thread nearer to the start date...<cheers>

Jiminez named last vice captain. He'll no doubt be the relaxing figure around the camp smoking his big Cuban cigars.
Poulter and Colsaerts are certs for picks in my book.

Poulter is nailed on and maybe Colsaerts is to as i cant see anyone else to challenge him really. My only concern is the current form of Kaymer. If Colsaerts can get one of the automatic positions, he has to be 1st or 2nd in the Johnny Walker... (curremtly 7 shots off that...) then Kaymer drops out. Otherwise its a simple pick for me...

With just one weekend left 10 of Europe's 12 players are currently in place for an pick...

    1) Rory McIlroy... Number one player in the world at the mo for me...
    2) Justin Rose... Another consistant year, has changed his putting coach and is showing good improvements...
    3) Graeme McDowell... A proper Ryder Cup player..
    4) Paul Lawrie... Not one of my favs but his form has been exceptional this year...
    5) Francesco Molinari... His putting is his biggest weakness and the Ryder Cup will test that out big time...
    6) Luke Donald... Mr Consistency. Will be a tough one to beat in the match ups...
    7) Lee Westwood... Has been quiet for a month or so but you know that he will be right up for this. Our Top Ryder Cup player for me...
    8) Peter Hanson... Performed solidly if not spectacular. Deserves his place after some good finishes this year...
    9) Sergio Garcia... Prob the inform player of the moment. Plus his attitude in the Ryder Cup unquestionable...
    10) Martin Kaymer... One of my main worries going into the Cup. He might snap out of it come the Cup but he isnt going into it with any form what so ever...

Anyway its all guess work for the 2 picks but i think we will be in for one hell of a Ryder Cup when it tees off in September... I cant wait...<ok>

The American team looks as strong as i've seen in a while, 5/6 i'm smelling value especially given it's in the U.S.A. Europe have obviously a good team just 1 or 2 players i'm not so keen on.
