It all depends who we sign in Jan and if players like Meyler and Campbell get fit again.

If we sign 2 quality players in Jan and Meyler & Campbell get fit and in form I can see us having a good second half to the season and getting in the top ten. If not it could be a very long season for us.

    Depends where you're talking about.

    Goalkeeper:

We have Krul, then Harper and then Elliot. I think Sunderland have a few goalies too, including Westwood, so there's no issue there.

    Defenders:

Probably our weakest cover area. Simpson, Saylor, Colo and Santon (when fit) are our starters, which leaves Raylor, Perch (shudder), Williamson, Kadar and Gosling can fill in there too. This worries me tbh, because Saylor and Colo have formed a very formidable partnership, and if either of them get injured, the back-up is nowhere near the same quality.

    Midfielders:

    Obertan, Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas

Then Marveaux, Guthrie, Ben Arfa, Abeid, Vuckic, Gosling, Ferguson, Smith (shudder).

We've got good cover here. Imo Marveaux should be in the first team, and other players like Ferguson and Gosling are top young players.

    Attack:

    Best, Ba

Then Ameobi, Lovenkrands, Sammy Ameobi, with Ben Arfa and Vuckic being capable of filling in there.

The quality isn't so good here, but at least there's bodies to fill the gaps, and unless we had a real striker injury crisis, we wouldn't have to draft anyone in out of position. Plus, Sammy is looking like a fine little player.

How about you guys? Would be interesting to see a comparison.

Nope. I've heard from a few Charlton fans that he put in some top class performances for them though, so that'll do me. After all, at this stage he seems to just be cover for Krul and Harps.

Never know, might see him in action tomorrow.

Charlton is the nearest club to me, geographically, and I've seen him play quite a few times. I have to be honest, I am not at all impressed by him (nothing to do with who he has signed for). Occasional brilliant shot stopper, but inconsistent. Terrible distribution, and apt to put on weight, so keep him away from Greggs. I have seen quite a lot of negative stuff about him on Charlton boards. Good luck!

Oh well! Honestly I've never seen the fella play so I can only just go off what I've heard (and what you've said). He might get a run out tomorrow in our cup game so we could see then.

Funnily enough, just noticed this in an article:

Makes a lot more sense now. I did think it was a bit of a random choice when we signed him.

Newcastle have far exceeded even their most delusional of supporters but they have done it with a huge slice of good fortune (how they didn't lose the derby, QPR game and the cup game is beyond me) and that sort of luck doesnt last the whole season.

I have a very good b&w friend who sees life in a more realistic fashion than most and whilst he is chuffed at the current position after 5 games, he fears that when the good luck runs out and someone gives them a caning, how will they react and if they suffer 2 or 3 key injuries, how will a paper thin squad cope?

Pardew has done far better than I gave him credit for initially and well done to him for that but teams are not going to keep missing chances against them and they could have lost by 4 v QPR and be out of the cup very easily. If we had converted our early control of the derby, as we did against Stoke, we would have been out of sight by half time. Then again, the world is littered with hard luck stories and what if scenarios I guess.

I'm looking forward to seeing their luck run out though all the same.

Yep, at Charlton. Pardew isn't exactly loved down there, believe me!

We have had some luck (we never do, so it's a nice change) but Villa was the game where we really seemed to gel and play very good football, where we were unlucky not to come away from Villa's ground with three points. I think one of the key factors is Tiote, as he's been ****e for all our games so far up until Saturday, where he looked closer to his usual awesome self.

So if we keep those sorts of performances up, we shouldn't have any problems this season, I'm fairly confident of that. Where the luck will leave us, the good performances and strong football will take its place.

Luck goes both ways mind. We've been very unlucky not to get some very close goals.

You do certainly have good depth across the middle IMO, but i think you've nailed your problems, back and front.

Krul, he's done very well, and improves all the time, already better than Harper, who you guys overrate (not bad, not much above adequate)

I hate to say it, cos i hate the ****,but Taylor seems to have gone up a notch, although Colo still lapses, he is overall a very solid CB indeed, and this has rubbed off on cheating, ugly , daft **** face.

Sadly for you, and i could be wrong, i think that Santon (who i stated here before you signed would be a great buy for you), may be carrying a niggler that will stop him from reaching his potential, it just seems to make sense with the fact he was allowed to leave inter, with Maicon into his 30's.

Best, well, i still maintain he's ****, but he gets summat on the ball and it goes in, and that is to his credit.

On the downside (for you), Ba, who i thought would be a cracking signing, is just ****ing awful.

Saylor has definitely found form. He's had so many injury woes and so on I think people have forgot that he was once considered a top young defensive talent. Now he's finally finding his true abilities and he's formed a very formidable partnership with Colo.

No idea. I hope not. I have heard Santon will be back very soon though and it isn't the four weeks out most expected. I think the scan scared some people, but it was only precautionary.

There's no particular flair, but he scores goals. He did it for most of the time he played last season and he's continued that on into this season. It ain't no fluke. This guy gets us the goals we need more often than not. He'll do me fine.

Nah mate he played much better against Villa. He's improving game on game and actually looked like quite a decent player against them. He's been unlucky not to open his account yet. A few West Ham fans said he's the type of bloke who needs a proper run of games to find goalscoring form and I agree. He just needs time, mark my words!

Tell me why a West Ham fan said that, he scored goals instantly for them!

Not aimed at you that btw, just a baffling comment from them!

It was only a couple, but from watching him they just got the impression that he needs regular games. So far with us he's been in and out a little bit, so he hasn't had a good chance really. Plus, the other times he's played he's played with Shola a lot which was an awful partnership. The first time he played with Best he assisted him, and you can just tell by watching that they play together well.

Watch this space my friend. Once Ba starts getting the goals I think people may have severely underestimated how many this Ba/Best partnership could bag.

Obviously i'll keep an eye on them, and we'll discuss in a few weeks!

I'll hold comment for now, don't wanna reverse jinx them into a goal-glut ;)

Nee botha at all I just need to apologise to you for being a twat.

Janie told me she had used my log in to come on.

TBF to her mate she has no idea how things work.

TBH, I wish you had left her posts on although I have explained that she has been naughty.

You should have took her up on the strippers though mate, would get you more in your club.
