Decent overall performance against a rather poor side. Some good goals, nice football in parts and some assured run outs. Dawson, Naughton, Townsend, Capoue, Lloris and Paulinho did well, Soldado was quiet but took his chances well and the rest was a mixed bag. Rose was decent and scored a great goal, but a bit rash at times and his positioning's still a bit off. Kaboul looked like what he is: A good player returning from a long injury. Up and down. Tired badly at the end. Sigurdsson was poor, Dembele worked hard but committed too many fouls and didn't gel well with the Icelander and Chadli did some good work when he came on. Carroll and Kane both showed some decent touches and the latter was unfortunate not to score, but the opposition had gone by then.
Can't believe we didn't win a single away Europa game last year, and now 5-0. I hope Townsend has earned a start against Swansea. So nice to see Soldado's composed finishing. It's a huge plus that we can rest the starting 11 if we want before the NLD.
A comprehensive drubbing, whether or not the opposition were light-weight. I doubt that the supporter of any prem team watching that display is going to feel confident about meeting us. Soldado, Capoue, and Paulinho look like absolute class. Chadi did well when he came on. Rose, Naughton and (especially) Townsend did more than enough to stake their claims for inclusion in AVB's future plans. Lloris was solid, as usual. Dawson had a good game, and Kaboul got 90 minutes under his belt. We have Defoe, Walker and Lennon fully rested, and Sandro to come back. If we get in a couple more marque signings (as is looking highly likely), we are going to have a fantastic squad for the next three or four seasons, and if we can secure CL footy in that time, for the foreseeable future. And that's all before we get our new stadium.
To be fair, it was a ****e side from Georgia, don't get your hopes up yet. You still need a CAM, a CB, a LB.
