I was going to be something about a Wolff in Sheep clothing, but I know there's a Welsh bloke around, and we don't need this thread making into a sticky.

Even Marx recognised that if everyone was created equal, within a short period of time, there'd be winners and losers. Some with more, some with less.

So what happens when capitalism fails?

    What's next mate?

We might not have long to go to find out. All depends how quickly we as a species can adapt to survive in a rapidly changing world.

I suspect that if we are going to survive much beyond the next 100 years, we will have to massively alter the way we see and relate to each other, and to the earth and it's finite resources. If we continue with the pursuit of wealth as our primary motivating impulse, we're ****ed imo.

The pursuit of wealth as a primary motivating impulse is irrelevant to the majority on earth.

Regular food and clean water are the driving forces for many more rather than wealth. Power and influence for many others.

You can't blame the problems of the world on just one element of human nature or just one aspect of politics.

You could argue that the pursuit of wealth and power comes directly from the pursuit of food and water - it's the same impulse, writ large. Once one tribe has control of the watering hole, it then starts fighting off neighbouring tribes, to protect it's territory. It becomes the wealthiest, most powerful tribe in the region. Internally, the strongest, most influential individuals vie for power and control within the tribe; that, essentially, is what politics is all about.

I think you can blame most of the problems of the world on the greedy, selfish elements of human nature. The solutions may lie in the co-operative, generous elements of human nature. We have to reign one element in, and nurture the other, iimo.

    Everybody has different motivations.

For me, I’ve never pursued money just for the sake of it - except perhaps in my early days in the City - but back then the ****ing taxman was taking home more money than me.
Money to me has only ever meant one thing - freedom! Freedom to do as I like, when I like. The Americans call it ‘**** you money’ as in when somebody wants you to do something you don’t want to do.....!

As soon as I felt I had enough to buy my freedom, I was gone! Never regretted it for a second!
