I don’t see it like that, you wouldn’t pick a player who had scored 200 goals if he’d had one leg amputated, and that’s how Kane was playing<laugh>

He wasn't playing well at all, personally, I didn't think he was fit but he knew where the goal was. I would've brought him off the bench and played either Toney or Watkins s ahead of him but that's all in the past now

According to SSN "sources" John McDermott, technical director of the FA may prefer Mauricio Pochettino as they were at Spurs for a brief time together. And they say Pochettino may fancy the job

I like Poch. I think the job he did at Chelsea is underrated. Would be an exciting option.

You know I used to like Liverpool but the classless and quite frankly Scottish way their fans have treated the England team this euros has certainly changed that and I don't buy the Scouse not English **** because Everton fans aren't absolute melons. Hope the new gaffer blacklists anyone from that rats nest.

One of my workmates hit the nail on the head with Kane. Been playing an entire season scored 44 goals with two out and out wingers. Not built for the system Southgate was playing

Thanks for everything Gareth. Taken us from a shambolic national side with nothing to be proud of and a laughing stock amongst the big nations, to one who has the utmost respect from fellow big nations and that can be trusted to compete at the elite level. Then away from what happens on the pitch the changes you have supported from grassroots through to age group has been tremendous. I hope you successor has as much motivation to look across the national game as he did. His legacy will live on for years to come.

Hope he takes a breather and then takes a job overseas before he takes a job in this country. Like someone else has said he could be so successful in a big league like Italy, or Portugal, France and not have the circus that will follow him in this country.

Glad he's gone. Should of resigned after the Italy defeat 3 years ago.

Growing up watching Liverpool win everything didn't bother me. We went over to watch Sunderland play there - the 1-1 when Phillips scored. We parked in a pub car park and went in afterwards. I got talking to a lady there and he asked why we sacked Reid. I told him that he took us as far as he could. That didn't wash with him and he kept going on and in. In the end, he said that Reid gave us success so asked why they got rid of Evans in that case cos he gave them success, his answer was "we're better than that!". I've hated Liverpool after that, second only to the mags

The only appointment for this I'd be happy with would be Carsley. It would represent continuity, which is what's required.

You would like the style of football to remain the same?

What's his opinion on "Las Malvinas"? Like it or not, a variation of that question will be thrown his way by a journalist playing an angle.

I would to a certain extent. I think the cautious approach is the basis of Southgate's success. It's not the kind of football I particularly enjoy watching but I think he's set us up right to go deep into tournaments. The only flaw has been that, especially in this year's Euros, he's more or less obliged to pick players that aren't best suited to the system.

It's a generalisation (there are obviously exceptions), but historically sides that have won the major competitions have either been total standout sides or have been built on very strong defences. Attractive attacking sides (Hungary 1953, Holland 1974, 1978, Brazil 1982 as examples) don't seem to win things. Southgate's approach probably needs some slight adjustment but it's given us more cracks at winning something than anyone else has.

I'm all for a solid defence but without offering anything going forwards your solid defence is going to crack under pressure against the best teams.

I just cannot take any pleasure from watching that kind of football at all, I think it's the time difference and the difficulty staying up/getting up for games. It makes me a snob.

It'll come up, it'll be a media story and plenty of the public will use his nationality against him if we look even remotely below par.

Like it or not, we'd be foolish not to factor that in.

I wouldn't want anyone Argentinian or Scottish because it would be more trouble than it's worth. I'd also say no Germans, but Klopp might just be worth the hassle.

Yeah, that's what need adjusting! More mobile forwards and not trying to crowbar Foden and Bellingham into one side would make a big difference, I think.

I can see your issue. Can't say I'd want to miss sleep to watch some of the turgid stuff we played <laugh>
