Its not so much that I think Spain are in form, they just don't have the worst route there. They are the stand out in their group, R-16 I have them to play Austria, I did have them down as beating Portugal in the Q-F which may be a stretch, but then the semi is Denmark, who are good but i'd expect Spain to win. Maybe I might correct it to Portugal - Belgium....
Group B - 2nd R-16 - Switzerland Q-F - Ukraine (the caveat is I have Ukraine beating the Netherlands, so this could be the Netherlands instead - but I reckon Denmark could give them a decent go as well).
Denmark are my outside bet for a place in the semis. But I think there could be a lot of surprises in this tournie. We haven't seen most of these teams for 3 years, some of them never at all. Group A will be fun. Three tough games for the Azzurri.
But recover from that, build momentum and belief all the way to the semi final, then lose on penalties to Germany. Can’t ****ing wait.
Name those defenders. The Greece defenders were not world-class individually, but they had a very effective system, and executed it very well. That's down to management and organisation, which is exactly what England have severely lacked for years.
Yep. Southgate (or any England manager) is constantly under pressure to pick the players most in-form. He will get bashed for being loyal and sticking with the players he knows best. How are we supposed to get any sort of consistency like this? People are even doubting TAA's position in the squad, because Liverpool had a few ropey months. Probably why we get beaten by the likes of Croatia. They have a smaller pool of players to choose from, but this means those players will always be picked no matter their form, and can therefore establish more of a 'team' mentality, rather than being just a bunch of individuals.
I can’t see us getting beyond the Round of 16 due to the usual issues, but I think there is real promise in this side, it just isn’t quite at its peak yet. Qatar will be England’s best chance of silverware imo - probably the last WC with Kane leading the line - Foden and Bellingham will have a couple years more experience, most of the rest of the squad will be at their peak. I still reckon Southgate will be managing though, unless we go out in the Group Stage of the Euros.
Injured apparently, supposedly back to fitness but only played 1 game since March. As you say though, no players from Real Madrid at all, must be a first for Spain?
