After the 3rd place match up, next would be winner group F (Hungary or Portugal) or Runner up in Group E Belgium, ROI or Sweden. Probably Belgium.
Friedel won 82 caps to Lloris' 75, as it stands. Kasey Keller had more for the US though, earning 102.
More than anyone in the Brazil squad at the moment, which probably tells you something. Julio Cesar picked up 80 caps and our old keeper has far less problems with the Premier League than he did. Gomes isn't perfect, but he's still a very good keeper, for the most part. He'll make the occasional balls up, but will still be pretty consistent and make some outstanding saves, too. He kept 11 clean sheets last season, which was only bettered by Cech, Hart, De Gea, Schmeichel and Lloris.
It's been reported The FA said a spot in the last four will guarantee Hodgson a new contract. So everyone sticky this post for when he gets a new contract despite slumping out in the last 16...
No problem with that. You cannot select England players on recent form. So it is with sacking the manager.
I for one salute our new ant overlords--I mean Hodgson's many changes. England are through to the knockout stages, and better to lose there to a better team than because the players are exhausted. One question, to paraphrase Casey Stengel: can't anyone around here other than Dier play as a DM? You'd think with all of England to choose from, Hodgson could have found somebody. Like Drinkwater or Noble.
You can tell the weaknesses in the squad from the positions that haven't been changed. Centre-half, holding midfield and whatever the hell Lallana's supposed to be doing. Presumably Joe Hart's been kept in the side to try and get past his balls up in the last game, though.
Man,that's a car crash of an England team. Let's hope we never have to play it or anything like it against anybody decent.
