Beckham said earli in his career he wanted to go USA and put football on the map there, think he was a special case.

Agreed. Beckham has probably created the greatest legacy in football ever. The US will be competing in the next thirty years and it will likely be their national sport. In no small part down to him that.

I was just wondering why you were so suspicious of his honourability that's all fella. I don't believe all footballers are the same, it's like any walk of life, you get gooduns and baduns, just think you're being harsh by labelling him.

Sunderland are ready to make a move for former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, according to reports.

The Cameroon forward was linked with a switch to West Ham last week but the Hammers pulled out of a deal, unwilling to meet Eto’o’s £120,000-a-week wage demands.

But Eto’o could yet remain in the Premier League, with Sunderland keen on snapping up the free agent, according to TalkSport.

The 33-year-old netted 12 goals in all competitions for Chelsea last season, but the Blues opted not to extend his one-year deal, leaving Eto’o in search of a new club for the coming season.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet had been hopeful of making Fabio Borini’s loan from Liverpool a permanent arrangement, but the Reds are seemingly unwilling to sanction a move before they replace Luis Suarez.

But with Poyet keen to add to his squad sooner rather than later, he could take a chance on veteran Eto’o.

    He is a free agent

A deal for him would proably cost us (over 1 season) 6 million quid due to wages

If Rodwell signs 10m fee, plus 3m in wages per year (5 year contract?) = 25 million

If Rodwell is worth 25m over 5 seasons, is Eto worth 6 million over 1 season ? That is the question Short will be asking before spending the money on him (Eto)

Eto'o signing for us would be a statement signing and would give us a bit of exposure and probably generate a bit of cash to offset it. Added to this the fact that potential players that we are looking to sign and loan would be drawn to play with such a player. 6 million.. he might be slightly past it but it can be a win/win situation.

    Ok then, how about Cannavaro.
All I'm saying is that I wouldn't necessarily want to put myself in a position where my final season could be an intense and stressful situation just for footballing reasons.

His wage would be too much to leave him warming the bench every week, so if we sign him then I would expect him to play. He is too small and old to play as a lone striker, so would likely play behind Connor or Fletcher - in which case the Borini deal is clearly dead.

So that would mean either Boini or Eto + a winger. The second option sounds very expensive wage wise.

Don't want him at all....why don't we just sign Connor up on a long-term contract??
